Including eigenvalues of the plane Orr-Sommerfeld problem. (English) Zbl 0791.76025

In an earlier paper [P. P. Klein, Z. Angew. Math. Mech. 70, No. 6, 560-562 (1990; Zbl 0716.65078)] a method for eigenvalue inclusion using a Gerschgorin type theory was applied to the plane Orr-Sommerfeld problem in the case of a pure Poiseuille flow. In this paper, the same method will be used to deal with the plane Orr-Sommerfeld problem where the basic flow is a linear combination of Poiseuille and Couette flow.
