Existence of CMC Cauchy surfaces and spacetime splitting. (English) Zbl 1437.83014
The author is reviewing the results on existence (or nonexistence) of constant mean curvature spacelike hypersurfaces in the cosmological setting, and discusses the connection to the space-time splitting problem. The author is accentuating the contribution by R. Bartnik [Commun. Math. Phys. 117, No. 4, 615–624 (1988; Zbl 0647.53044)] to the solving of the problem. To the knowledge of the reviewer there are no papers by Robert Bartnik published after 2010, while the biographic sources are very scarce.
