A hybrid information and redundant transmission based routing protocol for VANETs. (Chinese. English summary) Zbl 1424.68012

Summary: Routing protocol research for vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) confronts challenges because the rapid moving of vehicle node leads to the frequent changes of the network topology and the unstable quality of wireless link. In order to deal with these challenges, a hybrid information and redundant transmission based routing protocol for VANETs is proposed. According to the road characteristics in urban environment, an undirected graph is abstracted, where the intersections are vertices and road sections are edges. The real-time information of traffic and networks is collected by the stationary nodes deployed in the intersection, and a weight value is given for each edge, and then the shortest path between any two intersections is calculated by using the Dijkstra algorithm. As for the data transmission within road section, the next node is selected by considering the distance, speed and link reliability, and the success rate of data transmission is improved through redundant transmission technology. The simulation results indicate that the proposed routing protocol performs well.
