Power system disturbance modeling under deregulated environment. (English) Zbl 1269.34060

Summary: The paper proposes a new tool that utilizes windowed-wavelet multi-resolution analysis to model and monitor different disturbances that may take place in a multi-ownership system. PSCAD/EMTDC simulator is used to model part of Al Ain distribution system and the proposed technique is implemented to model different power system disturbances. The local maxima of wavelet expansion coefficients show the ability to model all expected disturbances utilizing a small set of expansion coefficients. Furthermore, the maximum multi-resolution expansion level restricted for each wavelet function can be extended to monitor simultaneously stationary and non-stationary disturbances as well as high and low-frequency components.
