Retrieval of electron return time from high-order harmonics generated in a mixture of He and Ne gases. (English) Zbl 1228.81294

Summary: In terms of single-atom induced dipole moment by Lewenstein model, we present the macroscopic high-order harmonic generation from mixed He and Ne gases with different mixture ratios by solving the three-dimensional Maxwell’s equation for the harmonic field. We then show the validity of mixture formulation by N. Wagner et al. [“Extracting the phase of high-order harmonic emission from a molecule using transient alignment in mixed samples”, Phys. Rev. A 76, No. 6, Article ID 061403 (1977)] in macroscopic response level. Finally, using least squares fitting we retrieve the electron return time of short trajectory by formulation in T. Kanai et al. [“Destructive interference during high harmonic generation in mixed gases”, Phys. Rev. Lett. 98, No. 15, Article ID 153904 (2007)] when the gas jet is put after the laser focus.
