Design, generation, and stress analysis of two versions of geometry of face-gear drives. (English) Zbl 1062.70571
Summary: Two versions of geometry of face-gear drives are considered based on: (i) involute profiles, and (ii) advanced modified profiles of the pinion. A new method for generation of face-gears by application of a grinding (or cutting) worm has been investigated. Tooth contact analysis and stress analysis have been performed for both versions of geometry for their comparison. The following new advantages of the new design have been confirmed: (i) existence of a longitudinal bearing contact, (ii) avoidance of edge contact, and (iii) reduction of contact stresses. Numerical examples illustrate the developed theory.
