Cooperative internet computing. (English) Zbl 1040.68003

The Kluwer International Series in Engineering and Computer Science 729. Boston, MA: Kluwer Academic Publishers (ISBN 1-4020-7419-0/hbk). viii, 258 p. (2003).
The book is a compilation of all 14 accepted papers of the Second International Workshop on Cooperative Internet Computing (CIC2002) in HongKong. The papers are structured in the book in four parts:
Part I: “Distributed Objects and Videos” including the papers: Invocation Protocol on Object Replicas; Mobile Agent Model for Fault-Tolerant Objects Systems; A Multi-paradigm Video Querying System over the Web.
Part II: “Web and E-commerce” including the papers: Building a Collaborative Client-Server Application; Acceleration of Data Center-Hosted Distributed Database-driven Web Applications; Multi-tiered Cache Management for E-Commerce Web Sites; A flexible payment scheme and its user-role assignment.
Part III: “XML and Query Processing” including the papers: Performance of Networked XML-driven Cooperative Applications; Improved Parallel Algorithms for Path Expression Querry Processing of Semi-structured Data; Inode: An Enumeration Scheme for Efficient Storage of XML Data.
Part IV: “Modeling and Specification” including the papers: Services for Virtual Teams Hosting; Towards a Transactional Framework Derived From Real Workflow; Web-Services Coordination Model; Hierarchical Text Classification Methods and Their Specification.
That table of content shows a wide scale of topics discussed on the workshop. This new area of research has still to find the right directions for focussing. And than we can expect more fundamental and more specialized contributions.
