A model for orientational diffusion in fiber suspensions. (English) Zbl 1039.76525

Summary: A model for the orientational diffusion resulting from hydrodynamic fiber-fiber interactions in a general linear shear flow is presented. The constants appearing in the expression for the diffusivity are determined from calculations of orientational diffusion in pure extensional flows. The model is tested against experimental and theoretical studies of orientational dynamics in simple shear flows.
