This is a review about cosmological consequences of a brane-world scenario. It is related to string theory, where here mainly the 5-dimensional space-time approach is used. Applications are deduced for the appearance of black holes, gravitational waves, and the inflationary phase of cosmic evolution. Gravitational perturbations are considered in detail, where the Gauss-Codazzi equations are applied.
