This paper deals with describing the various ways to approach generalized \(q\)-Schur algebras, which are certain endomorphism algebras arising from representations of finite groups \(G\) of Lie type and their associated Hecke algebras. The paper describes the standardly based algebras (a basis approach), stratified algebras (a homological approach) and the quantum group approach.
