Residual smoothing techniques: Do they improve the limiting accuracy of iterative solvers? (English) Zbl 0984.65026
The authors present a roundoff error analysis of smoothing algorithms. It is shown that ultimately attainable accuracy of the smoothed iterates is in general not higher than that of the primary iterates.
