Summary: The purpose of this work is to minimize the computational time in the Newmark scheme for solving linear elastic wave propagation problem. A relation between the error due to the inexact solution of the linear system of algebraic equations, the degree of polynomial that approximate the inverse matrix and Courant number is found. An optimization problem is formulated and solved.
