Branching processes, trees and superprocesses. (Processus de branchement, arbres et superprocessus.) (French) Zbl 0967.60084

Pier, Jean-Paul (ed.), Development of mathematics 1950-2000. Basel: Birkhäuser. 763-793 (2000).
This paper is a survey of the most important directions of the development of the theory of branching processes and superprocesses in the second half of the 20th century. It includes the most important results related with Galton-Watson processes, continuous time and state processes, Bellman-Harris and Crump-Mode-Jagers processes, spatial processes, superprocesses, the genealogy of branching processes and probability distributions on trees. Besides, it contains pictures of some probabilists who made considerable contribution to the progress of this field of probability theory.
