Reflection and transmission coefficients for a transversely isotropic inhomogeneous layer. (English) Zbl 0955.74037

The author considers the propagation of harmonic waves incident on a transversely isotropic, viscoelastic and continuously stratified layer. Wave splitting technique and integral formulation are used to obtain series solutions for horizontally polarized scalar waves and vertically polarized vector waves. It is shown that if the kernel of the integral operator has a singularity (turning point), then a bounded solution exists if total reflection occurs at that point.
