About Newton-Krylov methods. (English) Zbl 0911.65042

Bristeau, M.-O. (ed.) et al., Computational science for the 21st century. Dedicated to Prof. Roland Glowinski on the occasion of his 60th birthday. Symposium, Tours, France, May 5–7, 1997. Chichester: John Wiley & Sons. 53-61 (1997).
Section 2 describes briefly Newton-Krylov methods, Krylov linear solvers and gives some results on matrix-free implementations. Section 3 deals with acceleration schemes for a serie of symmetric linear systems, based on Lanczos algorithm. Section 4 is similar but for nonsymmetric systems and is based on the GMRES algorithm. Section 5 gives some new results about nonlinear acceleration schemes based also on Krylov subspaces.
