Symplectic methods for conservative multibody systems. (English) Zbl 0895.70004
Marsden, Jerrold E. (ed.) et al., Integration algorithms and classical mechanics. Based on the conference held at the Fields Institute, Waterloo, Canada, October 1993. Providence, RI: American Mathematical Society. Fields Inst. Commun. 10, 25-43 (1996).
The authors investigate and develop efficient numerical integrators for multibody systems with various types of connecting joints. They demonstrate that a special formulation based upon a particle representation together with a symplectic discretization offers an efficient alternative to standard approaches. The paper could be of interest and use to numerical analysts working with large multibody systems.
