A domain decomposition method for hyperbolic problems in 2D. (English) Zbl 0860.65090

Summary: Implicit time-discretizations of hyperbolic partial differential equations are considered. The linear system of equations that has to be solved in each time-step is solved with a conjugate gradient-like iterative method. The system is preconditioned with a new block-Toeplitz preconditioner with a fast solver based on a fast modified sine transform. The preconditioner is shown to work very well in a domain decomposition setting of the problem.
