On the existence of plasma corners. (English) Zbl 0798.76097
Summary: The free-boundary MHD equilibrium is considered for plane symmetry and constant current profile. It is shown that there are solutions with an \(x\)-point at the plasma-vacuum interface, such that the plasma fills one of the four sectors formed by the separatrix. Such “plasma corners” are a common feature of modern fusion devices.
