We survey the literature on the so called quenching problem since 1985, when the last survey on the subject appeared [H. A. Levine, Proc. Conf. Arlington 1984, North Holland Math. Stud. 110, 275-286 (1985; Zbl 0581.35037)]. We also present some open problems which have arisen in consequence of the results of the recent literature.
