A new approach to irregular sampling of band-limited functions. (English) Zbl 0790.42020

Recent advances in Fourier analysis and its applications, Proc. NATO/ASI, IL Ciocco/Italy 1989, NATO ASI Ser., Ser. C 315, 251-260 (1990).
We present a new approach to irregular sampling. The starting point is the observation that band-limited functions satisfy a reproducing formula. We indicate how to derive an irregular sampling theorem that satisfies the following requirements: 1. The original function should be recovered from the irregularly sampled values by a constructive method. 2. The method should have good localization properties. 3. The reconstruction should be possible in stronger norms than just \(L^ 2\), at least in weighted \(L^ p\)-spaces. 4. Stability of the reconstruction under errors. 5. Arbitrary dimension.
