This is an account of the work which started in 1957 by the paper in Czech. Math. J. 7(82), 418-449 (1957; Zbl 0090.300) of J. Kurzweil. The creation of the generalized (ordinary) differential equations is the result of the effort to explain some convergence effects in the classical theory of ordinary differential equations.
