Foundations of catastrophe theory. (English) Zbl 0661.58003
Monographs, Advanced Texts and Surveys in Pure and Applied Mathematics, 26. Pitman Advanced Publishing Program. Boston - London - Melbourne: Pitman. x, 262 p. (Gö: ZA 52123:26) (1985).
The book is aimed at the well educated nonspecialist who has a strong motivation. Since the prospective reader may not have the benefit of a general background context for the theory, it differs from the usual style of writing mathematics in laying heavy emphasis on motivation. Each chapter is closed by a terse and rigorous summary of the main ideas and by a short guide to the literature.
