Fractals in physics. Proceedings of the sixth Trieste international symposium on fractals in physics, ICTP, Trieste, Italy, July 9-12, 1985. 2nd reprint. (English) Zbl 0652.58001

Amsterdam etc.: North-Holland. xii, 476 p. $ 55.50; Dfl. 150.00 (1988).
This volume contains the Proceedings of the International Trieste Symposium on ‘Fractals in Physics’.
The majority of the contributions presented are concerned with the study of the physics underlying irreversible growth phenomena that generate fractal structures. This area of problems that we may call ‘Kinetic Critical Phenomena’ represents one of the most challenging fields in today’s theoretical physics.
In view of the large number of papers the articles will not be reviewed individually. We just remark that the resulting proceedings seem to present a complete and up-to-date coverage of this area which has undergone rapid growth in the last few years.
Contents: Preface. Parts: I. General Properties of Fractals. II. Analysis of Fractal Properties of Materials. III. Polymer Statistics and Self Avoiding-Walks. IV.
