The author’s abstract: “A set A of points in a finite generalized quadrangle is tight provided that on the average each point of A is collinear with the maximum possible number of points of A. The determination of all tight sets is related to several extremal problems in finite geometries and is undertaken here for quadrangles with small parameters. This leads to an interesting model of the classical geometry W(3).
