Necking and neck propagation in polymeric materials under plane-strain tension. (English) Zbl 0618.73050
Necking and neck propagation as observed in cold-drawing polymers is analyzed for plane-strain tensile loading. Approximate one- and two- dimensional analyzes are presented for quasi-static neck propagation along an infinitely long specimen. In addition, the entire load- deformation behaviour of finite length specimens is computed using the finite element method. Various material models describing effects such as rate dependence and anisotropic (kinematic) hardening are considered.
