In the paper some applications of the differentiation and integration of a function with respect to a matrix valued argument are given. It is shown that some operations frequently encountered in circuit theory, such as the computation of the network transfer function using state space representation and the computation of the determinant of the sum of two matrices, can be concisely expressed by use of the two operations discussed in the paper. It is hoped that these results could lead to more economical computation of some objects used in circuit theory.
