The numerical solution of the pole assignment problem by static output feedback for multi-variable time-invariant systems is discussed. A ’robust’ solution is determined such that the closed-loop eigenvalues are as insensitive as possible to perturbations in the system data. A numerical algorithm which produces an approximate solution is presented, and theoretical bounds on the errors are derived. A numerical example is given.
