The authors discuss a multihit model for bivariate quantal responses in the presence of background. They give maximum likelihood estimates of the model parameters.
Finally, based on asymptotic properties of the estimators, a low-dose extrapolation procedure and a lower confidence limit on a ”virtually safe dose” is given. The procedure is applied to the liver and bladder tumor data of the 24 months \(EP_{01}\) study.
