Aus dem Vorwort: Der Text der 1. Auflage (1952; Zbl 0049.31106) wurde kaum verändert. Modernisierung, die nicht ein ganz neues Buch geschaffen hätte, würde sich nicht gelohnt haben. Die Anmerkungen wurden um Hinweise auf die neuere Literatur vermehrt. Außerdem wurde verschiedentlich auf Vereinfachungen hingewiesen, die ich meist Herrn M. Kneser verdanke.
