[edit]Possibly from Proto-Finnic *këula, possibly borrowed from Proto-Germanic *skeulą (“shelter”) or alternatively Proto-Germanic *keulaz (“ship”). Alternatively from Proto-Finnic *këpla, possibly borrowed from Proto-Germanic *geblą.
