[edit]From Malay acara, from Classical Malay اچارا (acara), from Sanskrit आचार (ācāra), from the root चर् (car), from Proto-Indo-European *kʷel- (“to move; to turn (around)”). Doublet of acaram and ajar.
- The sense of court examination is a learned borrowing from Old Javanese ācāra (“custom, practice”) as a semantic loan from Dutch proces (“trial court”, literally “process, procedure”).
