Welcome!

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. The following links will help you begin editing on Wikipedia:

Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia

The Wikipedia tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome!

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Crown cone, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Conus regius. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 23:13, 24 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of cities in Somaliland, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Baki (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Flags of cities of the United States

[edit]

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. We always appreciate when users upload files. However, it appears that one or more of the files you have uploaded or added to a page, specifically Flags of cities of the United States, may fail our non-free policy. Most often, this involves editors uploading or using a copyrighted file of a living person. For other possible reasons, please read up on our Non-free criteria. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:07, 18 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please check the copyright license of a file before adding it to Flags of cities of the United States. Anything licensed as non-free content cannot be used on that page. If you notice that a "placeolder" image is being used, then there's a good chance that the file you want to add was previously removed for this reason. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:09, 18 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, from the Portals WikiProject...

[edit]

You are invited to join the effort to revitalize and improve the Portal system...

The Portals WikiProject was rebooted on April 17th, and is going strong. Fifty-nine editors have joined so far, with more joining daily.

We're having a blast, and excitement is high...

Our goal is to update, upgrade, and maintain portals.

In addition to working directly on portals, we are developing tools to make portals more dynamic (self-updating), and to make building and maintaining portals easier. We've finished two tools so far, with more to come. They are Template:Transclude lead excerpt and Template:Transclude random excerpt.

Discussions are underway about how to further upgrade portals, and what the portals of the future will be.

There are plenty of tasks (including WikiGnome tasks too).

With more to come.

We may even surprise ourselves and exceed all expectations. Who knows what we will be able to accomplish in what may become the biggest Wikicollaboration in years.

See ya at the WikiProject!

Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   19:49, 1 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much

[edit]

The RfC discussion to eliminate portals was closed May 12, with the statement "There exists a strong consensus against deleting or even deprecating portals at this time." This was made possible because you and others came to the rescue. Thank you for speaking up.

By the way, the current issue of the Signpost features an article with interviews about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

I'd also like to let you know that the Portals WikiProject is working hard to make sure your support of portals was not in vain. Toward that end, we have been working diligently to innovate portals, while building, updating, upgrading, and maintaining them. The project has grown to 80 members so far, and has become a beehive of activity.

Our two main goals at this time are to automate portals (in terms of refreshing, rotating, and selecting content), and to develop a one-page model in order to make obsolete and eliminate most of the 150,000 subpages from the portal namespace by migrating their functions to the portal base pages, using technologies such as selective transclusion. Please feel free to join in on any of the many threads of development at the WikiProject's talk page, or just stop by to see how we are doing. If you have any questions about portals or portal development, that is the best place to ask them.

If you would like to keep abreast of developments on portals, keep in mind that the project's members receive updates on their talk pages. The updates are also posted here, for your convenience.

Again, we can't thank you enough for your support of portals, and we hope to make you proud of your decision. Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   23:23, 26 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

P.S.: if you reply to this message, please {{ping}} me. Thank you. -TT

2019 US Banknote Contest

[edit]
US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here

20th century

[edit]

The 20th century does start with 1901 but ends with 2000. If it lasted from 1901 to 2001 then it would be 101 years long. Please fix List of state leaders in the 20th century (1951–2000) and any other pages you moved. tahc chat 14:18, 30 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, you're correct. I think I was confused because previously it had it ending in 2000 and starting in 2000 so I tried keeping them the same. You're correct, I believe they are corrected. Also readded the other edits for start year to the Template:Composers by era.--Pithon314 (talk) 17:10, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Username policy#Changing your username says they can be changed for privacy reasons after a name change. --Pithon314 (talk) 07:52, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the guideline also says: "while these can be changed manually, it is not recommended unless a contributor wishes to remove as much information as possible about their former name for privacy reasons.". You can email me to discuss this ... but unless your reasoning involves harassment or threats of real-world harm, I wouldn't do it. Also it's polite to use an edit summary when making such a change. Graham87 08:35, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Also pinging John M Wolfson, who undid one of your reversions. Graham87 08:39, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't realize the user in question was making these edits, so it's somewhat more understandable. That said, I'll defer to Graham and refer the user to e-mail him. – John M Wolfson (talkcontribs) 08:51, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the understanding, sorry for the confusion, I will use edit summaries for any further changes.--Pithon314 (talk) 00:09, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Pithon314

Thank you for cleaning up the Lonnie Poole info. I tried to clean up some of the info a few weeks ago but as you found out some of the 'awards' that were previously added actually didn't exist. Please let me know if i should have done more in my first pass through or if i made mistakes.

Also, i'm trying to make my first article for the NC State Wrestling team. i would love any help or advise you have.

CannisRoofusCannisRoofus (talk) 16:48, 28 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @CannisRoofus:! I had seen that you edited the Lonnie Poole Golf Course page in the history before I edited :D Your edits along with User:Guliolopez's edits inspired me to finish off the work and remove those article issue templates. I think your edits were great! Thank you for helping with the references, removing rewards, and formatting!
My advice for a new page would be to look at other similar pages as a template for which information to include, how to create the infobox, and what categories to put it into. I'd be more than happy to help create the article if you've got a start and can review it after you begin the page. Also, you can check out and join projects like the NCSU WikiProject and North Carolina WikiProject to find other similarly interested users. Thanks for reaching out! --Pithon314 (talk) 19:44, 28 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Sovereign State of the Bektashi Order

[edit]

On 29 September 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Sovereign State of the Bektashi Order, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Edi Rama and Baba Mondi plan to create the smallest nation in the world? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Sovereign State of the Bektashi Order. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Sovereign State of the Bektashi Order), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
