Gamelan pictures
Sorry to take so long for me to answer and fulfill your request, I've tried to find gamelan pictures and went through piles of my photofiles. Done.., here you go, check this out.
Hope that'll work. Cheers. Gunkarta (talk) 21:08, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

An editor rewrote the blurb for his FA article (1907 Tiflis bank robbery) - I talked him into reducing it to six lines and removing the links he added. MathewTownsend (talk) 17:03, 22 February 2012 (UTC)
- It happens, although I've never seen someone expand their own blurb so much. Sometimes we make mistakes in how to refer to a subject, like saying "the HMAS Sydney" instead of just "HMAS Sydney". Crisco 1492 (talk) 21:55, 22 February 2012 (UTC)
- an editor, User talk:DrKiernan reworded the blurb for Elizabeth II, thank goodness! He threw out the lede of the article (which is completely crappy) and fixed it up nicely. I asked him if the picture for the article was ok, since it is a nice picture of her and all the ones I ever see are her frowning wearing a big hat. His answer (in part) was this picture:
He said she smiles more than we know. MathewTownsend (talk) 01:43, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
Hi,
How do you feel about the images? I've been keeping an eye on possible promotions, and since none of the possibilities looked like that had good images, I settled on the ones I thought best, but you may have a different opinion. Would you rather have the insect instead of the ship, for example? Also, I made the glacier one slightly smaller than usual for the one in that slot, basically because (personal opinion) I don't think it's that interesting. Just me. Feel free. Best wishes, MathewTownsend (talk) 23:49, 25 February 2012 (UTC)

Australian water polo players
Hi. :) I nominated a bunch of water polo players for DYK. What are the chances that the pictures for them would pass through a featured picture review and be promoted? :) --LauraHale (talk) 08:13, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
- I'll have to take a look at them when I have the time. I just flew in from Bali, so still a little chaotic. Crisco 1492 (talk) 10:14, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
- Dumped a possible draft at User:LauraHale/Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Australia women's national water polo team set. I just don't know enough about this to see about doing it. :( --LauraHale (talk) 12:50, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
- I'd suggest trying a single nomination first, as some are heavily against sets and we don't want to flood FPC with very similar images. My suggestion is File:Gemma Beadsworth (1).jpg, as it has the most lively pose (which is one of the things people look at when judging at FPC) Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:45, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Chrisye's Wedding.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Chrisye's Wedding.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 03:59, 26 February 2012 (UTC)
Do you know how irritating it is to receive a generic message like that from somebody I consider a friend? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:52, 27 February 2012 (UTC)
- Did I do that to you? I've been templating left and right over the past two hours. Free files trump fair use, after all. As for this one... I orphaned and asked for it to be deleted, so no biggy. Crisco 1492 (talk) 10:54, 27 February 2012 (UTC)
Good that its a free poster, but all you had to do it tell me, the templated generic orphan image tag I thought was a bit unnecessary, we are familiar with each other.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:39, 27 February 2012 (UTC)

I think we are in disagreement about two image alternatives - File:Promises JM.jpg / File:Promises promises poster 02.jpg (essentially the same image, one posted as FU and another as free) and File:Jayne Mansfield and Tommy Noonan in Promises Promises.jpg / File:Promises promises poster 01.jpg. I have but one discomfort - the alternatives may not be free at all. I understand that the posters are not carrying any license, but posters hardly do that, and may not be covered by the law for that. Can the legal aspect be verified? Otherwise we are disagreeing over two sets of non-free images. Aditya(talk • contribs) 04:11, 28 February 2012 (UTC)

Cruft DYK was for March 8
Hi, you promoted DYK Nom Charles Cruft (showman). I reviewed it and made a request (maybe not in the right place) that it be put on March 8 as a special occasion. Is it too late to move it, now that it is in prep? And can you tell me what I could have done to prevent the mistake. Thanks, --Ishtar456 (talk) 12:46, 2 March 2012 (UTC)
- I think it's in queue now, which I can't edit. You could ask at WT:DYK for someone to pull the hook. To prevent any mix ups, once the hook has been approved you can move it to the holding area at the bottom of the page. Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:54, 2 March 2012 (UTC)
- The reason I did not move was that it says that an admin, has to move it. Thanks--Ishtar456 (talk) 13:00, 2 March 2012 (UTC)
- I'm not an admin either, so I cannot touch it if it is in the queue. I'll post on WT:DYK if you'd rather not. Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:02, 2 March 2012 (UTC)

Bachelot images
Hi again, I was wondering if you could take another look at the images on Alexis Bachelot, since you last looked at them KAVEBEAR pointed out a couple good images to add and I put them in. I doubt there will be any issues though. Thanks, Mark Arsten (talk) 01:01, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
- Done. Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:09, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
Another question
I'm not quite clear on the criteria for Featured pictures, but what is the rationale for those massive nominations, like all the member's of a 2012 sports team (or all the baking pictures)? These look like snapshots, not at all featured worthy, IMO. What's the deal on those? MathewTownsend (talk) 01:21, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
- Sometimes images are considered to have more Encyclopedic Value as a group than individually. It's like the old adage, "greater than the sum of its parts". As such, they are nominated together. As you can see, such nominations can be quite contentious. Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:27, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
I assume MathewTownsend is talking about the picture on the left being the snapshot? The one on the left was not nominated for featured picture. The one on the right was part of a set and is the highest quality image of its type for profile pictures of water polo players, worth while particularly because it is part of a complete set of pictures for a team and one taken with team permission. It is higher quality than the comparable picture of the person on the official website. Could it be better? Yes. But it is really annoying to see some one's work degenerated as a snapshot. --LauraHale (talk) 00:56, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
- I can't speak for him, but from what I've seen he is trying to familiarize himself with the FP process. I personally am happy that you and Bidgee could get such high resolution images of the players. I am also heartbroken that my fears for the nomination were realized. Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:06, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
Your remark on the DYK nominations page
I take exception to the derogatory remark you made on the DYK nominations page for the article Animal navigation. You stated, on the subject of my review, "The article isn't even in the hook! Please do a real review."
To start criticizing someone who is trying to help clear the large backlog of unreviewed nominations for DYK is absolutely unnecessary nor do I think it is warranted in this instance. Are you trying to put me off doing reviews? What about assuming good faith? Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:35, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
- I assume good faith, but when you give a tick to an article which isn't even in the hook there's very little doubt that either a) you weren't paying attention or b) you just gave the tick to get the credit without looking at the article. Unless you have a satisfactory explanation for how you could give the nomination a good to go tick without it even being in the hook, my comment stands. Crisco 1492 (talk) 09:39, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
- Ah, I see what you are getting at now. I agree it was careless of me to approve a hook that did not include the title of the article. I reviewed the article and the source for the hook but did not consider the hook's wording sufficiently. I still don't like your derogatory comment and think it was unnecessary but am prepared to leave the matter there. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 12:06, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
How to nominate picture
How do I nominate a candidate for featured picture? Would this be a good candidate? It has an OTRS ticket at the Commons. MathewTownsend (talk) 20:33, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
- It has to be in an article for at least a week first. Perhaps you could try the piano or Steinway & Sons article. Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:02, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
- If it were in an article, would it be an appropriate nomination? (I'm unsure of the standards for featured picture.) MathewTownsend (talk) 16:49, 5 March 2012 (UTC)
- Quite probably, yes. Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:58, 5 March 2012 (UTC)
- What about this one. (It has a small tag in the middle - would that disqualify it?) MathewTownsend (talk) 01:34, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
- It's too small. Generally we hope for at least 1000px on one side, although in more is often expected. If that tag is a watermark, then it would have to be removed. If it's in the original picture, then it would probably be a reason for oppose votes. (I've been dealing with watermarks at Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Majas all morning. Asking a favor
Hi There, You are someone that I respect and I was wondering, if you have the time, could you take a peek at Template:Did you know nominations/Chardon High School shooting and if you do not want to do the review, could you give me your take on why people might be avoiding it. It is the subject? Is it too long? Is it me? Considering the article has had over 72,000 views since I started it a week ago, I thought it would be snapped up quickly. I have also been working very hard on the DYK backlog (like swimming up stream) in hopes, in part, of cultivating some good will so that someone might take a look at this.
Also, any tips you can give me on reviewing will be appreciated. I am thinking about sticking around to see about that backlog, but I had a review pulled from prep and I don't want to be that type of reviewer. Thanks in advance. --Ishtar456 (talk) 23:15, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

- I was looking for one of your noms to review it, but I found instead that a review I had done was pulled from the main page. It might be worth collapsing after I finish it and while a modifications are waited for. --LauraHale (talk) 02:01, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
- Impressive review... Crisco 1492 (talk) 03:58, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
- Probably took 45 minutes. The question becomes what to do with it now. ;) I might have enough expanded to actually use it at some point. --LauraHale (talk) 05:52, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
- Definitely for the next Aussie sports topics :-) Canberra have a women's hockey team? Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:56, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
- Working on softball for women. Working on field hockey for men. Doing it to destress from dissertation work. Might try to get articles about as many Australian Olympians to DYK as I can before the Games. --LauraHale (talk) 06:20, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
- I know how you're feeling. I'm trying to apply for a master's degree and don't know if I'll be accepted. Crisco 1492 (talk) 06:22, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
- I've submitted my intent to submit paperwork. I've got to do all the little editing stuff. I've got to make do a major rewrite of the first few chapters. I turn it in on 26 April 2012. I need to basically have it complete a week before that. Applying for schools in Indonesia? --LauraHale (talk) 06:24, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
- I guess so. Haven't heard back from Monash (probably scared them off when I asked if they had scholarships). I still want to study Indonesia-related topics. Wait, you submitted your intent to submit paperwork? What a bureaucracy! Crisco 1492 (talk) 06:30, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
- If you want a scholarship, you really need to find an advertisement for a student like the one below or check pages like this. Beyond that, you find the specific department and supervisor you want like this one , tell them your general background and ask if they have any funded research opportunities for PhD students. That is the system in Australia. As for my intent to submit, yes, I need to file paperwork so they can make sure they know who my assessors will be, will be able to contact the assessors in advance (set up things like what their postal address is and how to pay them their stipend), make sure they have some one in the office, use this when giving your completion seminar, etc. The paperwork also confirms how your research will be presented by the university at graduation, where your dissertation will be distributed. Very important. You just can't rock up and expect them to be ready to assess your dissertation. :) --LauraHale (talk) 06:40, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

*I'll say. It's easier if you live near where you are applying, methinks. Crisco 1492 (talk) 06:44, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
- Don't think it makes much of a difference. :) It is mostly a question of understanding the system. If you need help figuring out the Australian system, shoot me an e-mail and I'm more than happy to try to help. --LauraHale (talk) 06:49, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
- I'll keep that in mind when (if?) I go for my masters. Is Bidgee okay? Crisco 1492 (talk) 06:57, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
- The whole process of applying is some what close to that of actually submitting your dissertation. Bidgee is still dealing with the flooding, but otherwise doing okay. --LauraHale (talk) 07:03, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

This is NOT ready to go as the ref questions were nto answered.
- "It there a better source than the image in ref 2? Also the infobox needs some unmentioned things from the article sourced. And i dont believe non-free images are for DYK."Lihaas (talk) 07:05, 9 March 2012 (UTC).
- Fair enough. Crisco 1492 (talk) 08:37, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
This discussion is closed, as ALT5 is promoted. So I don't think subsequent edits should be made. Any problems, do not use that template. Instead, let's use the Talk:A Young Man's World. As for the infobox, I did what you asked, I summarized what is already cited in the article, and should there be citations in the infobox? By the way, from Wikipedia:DYK#Images: "Pictures and videos accompanying the DYK hook". There have been no videos or pictures accompanying the hook. Non-free images may still be allowed, as long as they are not used for the main page. --George Ho (talk) 19:41, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
- If pulled from the prep, the nomination should be reopened. Yes, we are allowed fair-use images in the article; just not on the main page. This is not the German Wikipedia, where no fair-use images are allowed at all. Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:39, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

Hi,
I've had the pics set up in a sandbox for a while, so I hope you don't mind if I do a little switching. Please feel free to revert or change anything you don't like. Trying to get rid of scroll bars on bottom pic.
Thanks,
