Denver Mountain Parks

[edit]

Hi Araucana. If you feel like expanding on what is written at the category, it is probably best to just create a new article for it, such as Denver Mountain Parks or whatever you find most appropriate. I just didn't have much information, so I added a couple sentences and categorized a few of the pages that way. Let me know if you have any other questions. --MattWright (talk) 01:12, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the work on Denver Mountain Parks. Is it possible for you to cite which paragraphs and information came from which of your sources? One way to perform inline citations is to do something like:
<ref>1912. Olmsted, F.L. Jr. Memorandum to Board of Park Commissioners, July 17, 1912.</ref>

Place that directly after the sentence or paragraph you would like to cite, and it will create an inline citation. Then, as long as:

<references />

appears at the bottom of the page, the full reference will be printed down there, with a quick link back to the location it was used in the article. --MattWright (talk) 06:19, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also, in reply to you, I don't think that we need the location coordinates on Denver Mountain Parks, since the article is about the system as a whole, not the main office. I also removed some of your external links from Red Rocks article, which I felt were appropriate for DMP article, but not Red Rocks. Let me know if you disagree. --MattWright (talk) 06:46, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

All of us at WikiProject Colorado really appreciate your help. Joe Sperrazza and Lance Barber may be able to help you with the Denver Mountain Parks. We also need an article for Jefferson County Open Space. I can help with any technical questions you may have. Good luck,  Buaidh  18:00, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Araucana, got your message... I've touched up Elk Meadow Park with in-line ref (still needs more), wiki links (using double bracket notation, the Colo template, section ref template needed, and initialized the talk/discussion page with the new Colo WP format. You can see how I added the inline ref-/ref notation which is needed for the activities section... I'm surprised the previous editors did not add inline refs, only the External Link section... not good enough. Bergen Park needs a lot of work. These two article are excellant for you to work on, adding refs to Elk Meadows and fully expand Bergen Park. When pulling text from a ref'd website, you can copy and paste the text BUT you have restate or rephrase the text in you own words, in a encyclopedic third person tone and remove all advertising or "greatest"/"largest"/"best" overtones. These two articles can be your "template" for new articles you want to create. I'll be on wiki more this winter as my busy summer has ended and had kept me away from wiki; and will be glad to assist you. Thank you for joining WP Colo. Cheers, Lance....LanceBarber (talk) 17:11, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Lance, thanks and Happy Thanksgiving... (I hope I responded to your kind comment somewhere else, as I see I didn't here). I just changed your ref to Bergen Park in the Elk Meadow Park article back because there IS a separate park named Bergen Peak Park. There is a lot of confusion on the DMP, and it seems no good online list of all of them. Hoping to resolve this, I started one this a.m. at User:Araucana/sandbox. Could you take a look when you get a chance and see if you think this is a good use of an embedded table/list format or should be done differently? Also this is derived largely from the 2008 Master Plan, and will be referenced of course, but do you think it's too similar? The only list of conservation areas I've seen is in the Master Plan (page 148). A list is a list, but I don't mean to violate basic principles here. If you think it's helpful and appropriate, one of us can move it to the main article. If not, suggestions for changing it are welcome. Thanks! --Araucana (talk) 17:32, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
And a Happy Tnksgvg Day to you too... I will take a look at it. For multiple topics with the same name, 1) use one article, with reference to both. Example, See Cheyenne Mountain,. it has multiple subjects, the park, the zoo, and USAF Directorate/Air Station, with tight reference to the [[NORAD}} article. Thus Bergrn Park would be handled accordingly... or 2) if, the "Bergen" list of topics becomes longer, then create a diambig page to reference all various topics, ie. B52 (disambiguation),,, or 3) create a List of Bergen Park places. Lastly as many parks are created, create a Category of: Colo Mtn Parks that can be added to all articles... in that order. That's my 2 cents, now for some pumpkin pie!!! Cheers, Lance....LanceBarber (talk) 00:49, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Template:User ecologist

[edit]

I created Template:User ecologist and Category:Wikipedian ecologists for you. You can remove the template from your user page if you prefer to not be so identified. Yours aye,  Buaidh  19:35, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, B! Very kind of you, and I'm sure it will be useful in WP. I'm not sure it applies to me-- haven't worked as such in years! So I've removed it while I think about it some more... But if you want to make me a Parks or Community page template, maybe I can accomplish something for WP:COLO. Later-- Araucana (talk) 22:54, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

User-ecologist

[edit]

I still think this page you created is a useful category. Any ideas how we can promote/populate it? --Araucana (talk) 12:50, 30 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've posted the userbox at Wikipedia:Userboxes/Profession#Science and Wikipedia:WikiProject_Ecology#Participants. If you know anyone who may wish to use it, you could let them know. You could occupy the category, until other users find it. Yours aye,  Buaidh  14:36, 30 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Protected Areas

[edit]

Another question, if you don't mind... In the page [Historic Landmarks in Colorado] why don't we have a category for National Natural Landmarks in the table at the end? All the other "Protected areas" seem to be listed. I searched in Protected Areas for a while before I found the page [of Protected Areas US] which does list them, but it seemed a little cryptic. An x-ref on the NHL page (as both are admin. by NPS) would seem reasonable.

Thanks! --Araucana (talk) 00:05, 29 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've added National Historic Landmarks to the Template:Protected Areas of Colorado. Your aye,  Buaidh  15:20, 30 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Help?

[edit]

Hi! I've sort of attached myself to another person's Afc (Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/George "Corn" Tassel), so I'm unable to decide whether or not the article is ready for Wikispace. I've cleaned up the article dramatically and posted a copy to my sandbox (User:Tokyogirl79/sandbox), but the original AfC is here. Once the original editor approves my edits and readds the citations, do you think it'd be ready for approval? I wanted to get someone from WikiHistory involved in this since you guys are more familiar with all of this. Tokyogirl79 (talk) 07:07, 23 November 2011 (UTC)tokyogirl79[reply]

Thanks for your confidence, Tokyogirl... The article looks pretty good to me, but I have to admit I'm not well versed in WP process, esp. reviewing and moving AFCs. I do note that there are now 3 versions of this article--one at AFC, one in your sandbox, and one in article space that is rendered obsolete by your revisions. This is too complicated for me to untangle, so you'll have to talk to someone who's up on WP and/or the history project. One place to start might be User:Smallbones, or see if you can contact an admin in the History project.
I can give you one hint that should improve things. To eliminate the redundant references, give each one a name. E.g., <ref name="abbott">all the text</ref>, then for future uses on the page, you only need <ref name="abbott"></ref> and it will repeat the original number instead of assigning a new number to the same reference. See also Smallbones user page (at the bottom) for more formats like "cite book" "cite web" etc. It will also be helpful if you put in complete links that go directly to what you're citing, e.g. [http://joshreads.com/restofURLtorelevantpage Josh Reads specific post title]. That is, add the "http://" and put in brackets to create the link in references just as you would in the article so people can see the relevance of the link.
Good luck! --Araucana (talk) 14:05, 23 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
One more thought (then I've really got to go to work!). Wondering why you didn't just fix the original article or create a new one in article space. Per this page Wikipedia:WikiProject_Articles_for_creation, Afc is for unregistered users and, as a registered user, you can create a page anytime. See also Wikipedia:Bold. --Araucana (talk) 14:17, 23 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Araucana. Thanks for your note last year. I was on an extended break, and when I got back I never really sorted through my (very, very) long talk page. Did you get much response in your quest for ecologists? I am currently trying to buff the ecosystem article, and the more I look the more bits and pieces I find of ecological articles, some good, some bad, many obviously written by people who know more about ecology than Wikipedia. While we have several strong organism-based WikiProjects, the ecology WikiProject is a badly underused resource. Guettarda (talk) 16:41, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies for getting this out so late, but this is all Pharos' fault. Please blame everything on Pharos.

That said, this message is just to let you know that we're having a photo hunt for Wiki Loves Monuments at 11:00 in the morning of Saturday the 15th in Boulder, probably somewhere around CU, though the exact location hasn't yet been decided. Since you have previously attended or expressed interest in other meetups in the area, hopefully you might be able to come.

Please sign up as soon as possible if you're interested; we'd love to have you along to help postpone the squirrel apocalypse. Or at least get some decent images. -— Isarra 05:02, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
