Hi, AAA!, and Welcome to Wikipedia!
I go by the nick Werdna here, but you can call me Andrew if you like. Thanks for deciding to get involved in Wikipedia, the largest encyclopedia in the world, created entirely by volunteers, and that anyone can edit. I just thought I'd drop by your talk page to say Hi, and to give you a few pointers on working around Wikipedia. One of the most important things is to sign your posts on talk pages, with four tildes (~~~~). This helps us figure out who said what and when on the talk pages. Another thing you should do is to fill in the edit summary field, which is just above the Save page button. You should also make all of your contributions here verifiable by a reliable source, or they might be reverted or removed. Finally, don't let grumpy people here scare you off. We have a policy of not biting the newbies — please make an effort to know and understand our policies and guidelines, but if you don't understand them, just ignore them, and use your own common sense. There's stacks for you to do here, so I'll leave you with a few pointers as to where you can get started. — Werdna talk criticism 06:26, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi AAA! Thanks for helping me keep the Monash Student Association wiki page clean. Can you also have a look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Melbourne University Labor Club and add your opinion? Spurious vandalism accusation

[edit]

I am astonished at your revert of my edit and the subsequent spurious accusation of vandalism for which I'm expecting an apology. I suppose you should know that it is inappropriate to make edits into archived peer reviews of featured article candidates because such edits can skew the impression from the discussion. Beit Or 07:42, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate your recognition of a mistake. Unwarranted late insertions into archived discussions are reverted all the time. Please don't revert me again. Beit Or 08:30, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi AAA

Thank u for ur correction on my page Sasha Abunnadi. I find that very insulting, frustrating and downright disrespectful. I also find it very ignorant, considering some people just don't understand that Middle eastern is very different from Afghani, Pakistani, or even Iranian. Thank you again for catching that.

Long term abuse pages at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion

[edit]

Hi AAA!, I'm guessing you weren't around when Wikipedia:Deny recognition was adopted and Wikipedia:Long term abuse was last cleaned up. Read through all the reports that you are sending to Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion very carefully. There's a huge difference between denying recognition and tracking abusive users who have been permanently banned or use very subtle tactics to POV push, spam, or vandalise articles. For example, could you spot Universe Daily yourself without a reference page to refer to? I doubt it. Please don't waste everyone's time with a blind mass nomination -- they're disruptive. --  Netsnipe  ►  11:52, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

UPN vandal

[edit]

I might watch some of the targeted pages. Can you give me a list? --AAA! (AAAAAAAAAAAA) 03:37, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Three of the vandal's main targets were UPN and 2007 in television (which I semi-protected) and Futurama (which another sysop semi-protected). Also vandalized to varying extents were Butters' Very Own Episode, CBS Paramount Television, Chappelle's Show, Comcast, Comedy Central, Desire (TV series) KUVI-TV, Moesha, Paramount Television, Password, Romeo!, Tweek, Watch Over Me and WPWR-TV. This might not be a complete list. —David Levy 04:33, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can't we just block all these IPs (For at least 1 year)? Also, I've discovered some of the socks are proxies. --AAA! (AAAAAAAAAAAA) 03:44, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you tell me which IP addresses are open proxies (and provide proof of this), I'll block them indefinitely.
As for the others, long-term blocks would mainly affect innocent users. —David Levy 04:28, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, these are the proxies. Type in their IP address at this site, and look at the box "Is proxy":'

Those appear to be AOL proxies, which are used by AOL to provide Internet connectivity to subscribers. They are not the same as open proxies (which are disallowed by Wikipedia policy). —David Levy 06:16, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

His/her block has expired, and is still doing that UPN vandalism. I've given him/her an only warning. Next time he/she makes another false move, please block him/her. --AAA! (AAAA) 05:31, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, I think that you should become an admin (and I'd like to nominate you myself). Here's my advice:
1. Wait a few months before applying. Otherwise, some people will oppose your nomination on the basis that your account is too new.
2. Tone down your user page's Uncyclopediocity (thereby making it easier for readers to understand who you are and how to contact you for help). Stuff like the Willy on Wheels joke needs to go, and you probably should at least move the userboxes to a separate page.
3. Get an e-mail address. Every sysop should have one, as it's important that users be able to communicate with you off-wiki. If you have access to any sort of private messaging (via an IM program or website) I'd be glad to send you a Gmail invite.
I still have other information that I'd like to share, but I would prefer to do so via e-mail. —David Levy 00:42, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I'm going away on holiday for 3 days, so you'll have to take care of the vandal by yourself. Sorry about that. --AAA! (AAAA) 23:28, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit on IPVandal

[edit]

Could you explain http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:IPvandal&curid=5048777&diff=100622658&oldid=100339322 ?

Is it that you have misstaken | with &124;? AzaToth 16:55, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. You replaced the bullets with the straight lines, as you may know. But sometimes people might want to link them, such as link which you have to use the | to shorten link. But if you used the | instead of the bullets, it will confuse the server and make the link look like contribs | WHOIS | RDNS | RBLs | block user | block log)|link. Now, the bullets don't do that, because they aren't used in the MediaWiki software during linking; so it should come up as link. --AAA! (AAAA) 23:00, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, then I understand, the reason for my edit, was that I though it would be good if they all looked simlar to the lx family templates. AzaToth 01:09, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why are you rollbacking me? Several editors have already agreed to tag it and improve it. License tagging for Image:Neuronew5.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Neuronew5.png. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 00:07, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Buddhist Monkey.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. I dont know the qualifications for a vandal, but i may have foundone. Maybe you could look into this? thuglastalk|edits 01:55, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Judging by his contributions, he doesn't look like a vandal. He's probably a new user who wants to expand articles (I do, sometimes), which isn't vandalism. And to know the qualifications of a vandal, go into their contributions and look at some of the diffs. If any seem to be nonsense, POV, or personal attacks, or clear vandalism, then that person may be a vandal, and should be warned with the appropriate warning templates. If he continues to vandalise despite a last warning, then you can report him to WP:AIV. --AAA! (AAAA) 02:52, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I had looked at several articles he has edited. Almost all of the edits i looked at appeared to be nonsense, but perhaps i did not look at enough of them or did not have knowledge of the material myself... One of them talked about erections? - 4 the one that made me suspicious was an unsourced claim that had no hits on google... Regardless, thanks for looking into it for me thuglastalk|edits 12:36, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Are you sure these are not vandalism -

1. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=John_Reynolds_%28actor%29&diff=prev&oldid=86441550

2. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_Harvey_Birdman%2C_Attorney_at_Law_episodes&diff=prev&oldid=103426932 thuglastalk|edits 00:25, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not vandalism. Just because someone added a reference to erections doesn't mean it's vandalism (unless it was in a silly way like "His erections are bigger than a tree trunk", then that's vandalism). I remember seeing a few T.V. shows that have made a few penis jokes myself, they can still be added to articles, as long as it's not in a silly way. Also, could you show me those nonsense edits you were talking about? --AAA! (AAAA) 00:33, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You did not respond to his first contribution. John Reynolds 'allegedly' plays a role on a lark? where is this coming from? is this implying he rides a lark while acting or something i have not thought of? the revert i made on carol king seemed nonsensical to me so i reverted it because it had no hits on google. Most or all of his edits seem odd and have no sources. While i do not argue that adding to wikipedia requires sources - if someone is making many claims that cannot be verified i would suggest having some way of checking. After all i could say B.F. Skinner 'allegedly' was a underdeveloped child when he was younger but this should need some form of source. after all, perhaps i have alleged this? I have not found one edit he has made that i have been able to verify. i appologise for poor grammar and such i have no time to be wiki'ing - exam in 12 hours. thuglastalk|edits 02:08, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Shock Site article

[edit]

You reverted my removal of Lemon Party. In my edit summary, I refered to 5. Yes, Lemon Party is a notable website, but the removed content was nothing that was suitable for a tertiary source like Wikipedia. It was pure description, taken from personal observation, and a comment on how it was "offline for a few years".

Unless some site publishes an article that specifically mentions lemonparty and its usage/distribution and/or fame on the web, nothing that can be said about lemonparty is objectively notable. Blueaster 01:14, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

More UPN Vandal stuff

[edit]

Your talk page is just riddled with this guy, I feel so guilty to dump more stuff on you. Anyways, here's a copy/paste from WP:ANI about a few people that probably qualifies under this guy's Modus Operandi, as you are the resident expert type guy on him....

Delarion97 (talk · contribs) I'm a little confused by the form to submit sock puppets, but I suspect this is one case. In any case, the user is engaging an agressive behaviour towards other editors (and admins) based on the fact that his page was speedy deleted.

In any case, he appears to be using multiple accounts:

 • Consistant edits among accounts: Jay-G7 has [15] while 172.163.78.145 has three diffs restoring the same edit. [16] [17] [18].
 • This diff seems to be clearcut proof where the user sort-of admits to sockking.

While this is on the early side for posting this request, I'd like to prevent any disruption as soon as possible. --Sigma 7 20:47, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Per Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of The UPN Vandal, Delarion appears to be a sockpuppet of the UPN Vandal per his choice of username. Jay-G7 appears to be a sockpuppet of Delarion, due to their similar patterns on contributions. The 172 IP falls into the UPN Vandal range. Logical2uReview me! 12:57, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

That's good. It's now down to 79 KB. I'd recommend adding a bit more of that controversy stuff back in the main article (maybe one or two more paragraphs) and also split off a few other of the longer sections of the article. Everyking 09:32, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good. It looks like that's actually the last long section left, so maybe the article will be OK if you take some length off there. Everyking 09:58, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I struck out my object vote. Is it good enough to be an FA? Right now I'd say no; I don't think the referencing is good enough. SProtecting Templates

[edit]

Heh heh, that's really funny. Here I was assuming that the insertion of the sprotect template automatically protected the article. I suppose it would've helped if I'd read the protection policy first and learned that only admins can protect. At least I would have realized sooner how UPNV was able to change the template (already) with a new account.

Well, while I'm here, I might as well ask what you think of SProtecting the three templates UPNV has been messing with and whether you are able to take care of this.

Your icon changes

[edit]

Hi, you recently changed the icon parameter to the vandalism series of warnings. Could you please explain how the change differs from the current optional icon parser (I'm not a scripting guru)? Also can you let me know if you are going to add it to the other 100 odd uw templates please, as this series is now out of sync with the rest of the temaplates? Many thanks Khukri 07:38, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I can explain. I was looking at the code, and saw that for the current parameter, you'd have to add "" to change the icon. But with the new parser function I added, all you'd have to do then is "", which is much easier. Do you understand? --AAA! (AAAA) 07:43, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The icon code isn't for changing the icon, it was simply requested by a couple of editors to disable it i.e. . Please read here (hidden amongst it all). If you are suggesting that we can change the icon for any symbol we chose I'd rather this went through WP:UTM, as this has potential problems in trying to maintain a harmonised system. Khukri 07:51, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, okay. I thought it was for changing icons, but I could see i was wrong. Anyway, I'll go and revert my edits to its previous state. Sorry for any inconvenience I may have caused. --AAA! (AAAA) 07:55, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not a problem at all, and I think it's an idea with merit as it gives the issuing editors greater flexibility. But for now I think it should stay on the back burner until the uw- series is finished, and we have a complete instruction manual for all the warnings, as they are becoming quite complicated. Anyhoo cheers again Khukri 07:59, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm. Where do I sign up? --AAA! (AAAA) 08:07, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:UW is the project (where you can sign up) that organised the whole rationalisation shebang in the first place, started with all the multi level warnings, and we are currently killing off the last of the single issue templates. If you look here WP:UW/Overview this was the proposed redirects plan that was scrapped after too many editors decided they preferred the old system, but it still gives a good overview of the status of what needs to be done. You really need to read through all the talk pages for an idea of the work that's been done so far. WP:UTM is the day to day frontpage of the templates, this is where Joe Blow comes in for questions as to which templates to issue when an editor does blah blah. My next plan is to harmonise the few image warnings, then merge to WP:UW into WP:UTM but that still a way off in the future. Anyway more the merrier and sign up. Khukri 08:16, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Look at this diff. Did I do the right thing here? --AAA! (AAAA) 08:23, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yea but I wouldn't do the re-directs yet, as you'll get someone screaming it's their favorite warning, etc. We're going to leave the redirects for a while (quite a while in fact) most probably run the two systems in parallel and eventually once more editors tweak the uw- warnings to exactly how the community wants them, then the old ones will become superflous and will gradually die a long slow and hopefully not so painful death. Oh you can reply here, I have your page on my watchlist instead of having a disjointed conversation, though I will copy it over to mine to keep things tidy. I know call me a tidy nut..... Hey, I made a logo for vandal sniper that is in the svg format, (see WP:SVG) which is preferable to other formats for logos. The userbox will look like this with it, however I want to make sure that you're ok with it before I change it over to the new version

George W. Bush

[edit]

I added that George W. Bush started Arbusto Oil with Salim Bin Laden. Which is true, and was previously removed from Wikipedia by Someone at ip address: 156.33.144.92 (According to Wiki Scanner is the U.S. Senate Sergeant At Arms). I felt that his and now your actions are more biased than mine. It was an interesting fact I didn't know. I think people should know that Former Pres. George H.W. Bush and Pres. George W. Bush knew and did business with the family of Osama bin Laden. You could hear that and think, "Wow, what a small world the greatest president ever did business with the uncle of the greatest terrorist ever!" or "He must've planned 9-11". It's everyones choice what to do with knowledge. In your case you choose to delete it, pretend it didn't happen, and call me a vandal. I don't think removing information for political purposes should be tolerated. That's why I put it back. People should have access to the facts and judge them accordingly but you'll probably just remove this and forget it ever happened so why do i even bother? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Marklee81 (talkcontribs) 06:52, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The paragraph I added about lemonparty.org *IS* sourced. The quote from 30 Rock is a reference within itself, and the link to the short film parody of the website is also a source. The link to the website being mentioned on VH1's "Best Week Ever" is a source. The link to goldefiddle.com sources the 30 Rock quote; however if that is unacceptable or not sufficient, please feel free to Google ""30 Rock" "Lemon Party"" and choose a more appropriate source from the 606 hits. 'Kids Choice' vandal

[edit]

I see you've reverted this roving IP vandal a few times, thought I'd let you know about this: [21] I requested semi-protection on a bunch of his current haunts (and apologized to the admins, I should have been more selective). I'm hoping this will discourage them a little, since sock warning/blocking isn't helping. Will take it to AN/I if he returns. --Bazzargh (talk) 13:15, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the info. I asked for protection because his edits were quite slow, but consistent - suggesting that this isn't a bot or someone typing, but more likely he's just hitting 'undo' on our reverts. At least this way he'll have to resort to typing again, which might make vandalism more painful for him. I'll read up on the UPN incidents. Bazzargh (talk) 13:49, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
(sigh) ok, I see - if he's been at this for over a year, a few semi-protects aren't going to stop him. Bazzargh (talk) 14:01, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to go back to uncyclopedia, and found what was left of it,and I AM trying to be funny, so I could be like you. 65.173.105.141 (talk) 04:24, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That Sock warning

[edit]

Yeah, I caught him earlier but he paused for an hour or so, so AIV decided not to block. Hopefully it'll stick this time - that makes it 5 times this week I think. As for signing the warning, I'd seen other people do it, seemed like the polite thing to do. Bazzargh (talk) 12:52, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He's trying something different. See User talk:63.215.28.109. I made a revert yesterday on Osmosis Jones from a similar address (popsite dialup) but the edit was isolated and I didn't check further then; but now I have I see this [22]. I think he's using AOL broadband to make a few edits, switching to a dialup account temporarily, then switching back to AOL to get a new address. I expect another 172'll be along in a minute. Interestingly thes 6x.x addresses seem to be just him, so I'll take them to WP:SSP to get longer blocks. (btw just got your message when I previewed - I wasn't done with him yet! :) ) Bazzargh (talk) 11:09, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Useful Firefox plugin for you

[edit]

You see the problem with this page? There are simply too many characters that is not a capital A. In such a case, I have the ever most useful Firefox plugin AAAAA. Five A's. It converts every character on any page to an A. I should warn you though, it can be somewhat slow on large pages. But that is until I pull myself together to use DOM instead of xpath. Note: It requires to be logged in with a developer profile, until I can release it into the wild, so please! Make a review! Oh, and btw, weren't you a member at the Infosphere? --Svippong 18:38, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Dancing Banana.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Dancing Banana.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. I've found recently that warning him is having an effect. Thanks for uploading Image:Ga790308.GIF. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. Disputed non-free use rationale for Image:Dancing Banana.gif

[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:Dancing Banana.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 14:41, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
