Please fix his name

[edit]

His name should be changed to "Mike Meyers". See, for example, here http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?player_id=623170 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:2000:E016:A700:E483:DE94:FE42:4863 (talk) 15:42, 8 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: Not moved; procedural close. Michael Meyers (baseball) and Mike Meyers (baseball) both redirect to Michael Myers, a disambiguation page. wbm1058 (talk) 12:23, 17 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

– The name he is known by is Mike Meyers. Look at all the footnotes in the article. There is a complication though. There is another Mike Meyers who is also a baseball player. So his name also has to be changed I guess. 2604:2000:E016:A700:4443:6A75:F651:8DD5 (talk) 19:20, 8 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I can't find a standard naming convention for this, but I thought normally I would see Mike Meyers (Baseball, born 1993). - GalatzTalk 00:36, 9 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Since this is uncontested I moved per WP:NC-BASE - GalatzTalk 20:51, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Confusingly we have the following ... doesn't the first one at least need changing, and then maybe the second? --
Different spelling, so I don't see why it would need to be - GalatzTalk 21:49, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Because, as Baseball Reference states, it is a common misspelling. See at the bottom of the page here, where it discusses misspellings. Frankly, I didn't even see the difference at first !!!

That is why on Mike Myers (baseball) there is the note on the top for anyone who is confused. - GalatzTalk 12:59, 11 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Smartyllama and Penale52 - thoughts? Should we be providing more distinction in the title between the two MLB baseball pitchers with confusingly similar names?2604:2000:E016:A700:7009:29F9:58CE:7005 (talk) 15:48, 11 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
    • Mike Myers (baseball) is fine. It disambiguates him from, say, the actor with that name. There is no other baseball player with a Wikipedia page with that name. Mike Meyers (baseball), in my opinion, should redirect to Michael Myers, the disambiguation page for everyone named Michael/Mike Meyers/Myers, including the two baseball Mike Meyers. That seems to be what we have now. Mike Myers has a hatnote to distinguish him from the two Mike Meyers, and since the name isn't the same, we don't need to disambiguate further per standard disambiguation policy. Smartyllama (talk) 15:56, 11 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
    • There should, however, be a hatnote on this page to disambiguate from the other baseball Mike Meyers and Mike Myers, like there is on the other two pages. I have added it. Smartyllama (talk) 12:28, 16 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • If there are two baseball players that could both potentially be referred to by this name, then the redirects should directly point to the disambiguation page rather than being arbitrarily moved to pick one as the target for one form of their shared name and the other one as the target for the other form. As of right now, both are already redirects to the dab page as they should be, so I don't see the value in renaming them. Leave things where they are now.
