The result of the move request was: Moved to Hugs (interpreter). (non-admin closure) Iffy★Chat -- 17:22, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
Hugs → Hugs (programming language) – No primary topic per WP:ASTONISH and WP:PLURALPT, Hug has 5,640 views compared with only 247 for the programming language and 3,347 for Hershey's Kisses. By long-term significance the programming language clearly isn't primary. Redirect back to Hug (disambiguation) as a compromise. Crouch, Swale (talk) 20:36, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). Steel1943 (talk) 05:11, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
- Per the WP:RMTR discussion, what is contested isn't necessarily moving the article away from Hugs, but rather what disambiguator to use for the new title. In the WP:RMTR discussion, it was mentioned that this article should be moved to Hugs (compiler) instead of Hugs (programming language). Steel1943 (talk) 05:19, 1 September 2022 (UTC)

- @Crouch, Swale: I would support this move, but I would suggest that Hug is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC here. (It's worth bearing in mind that very few of the views of Hershey's Kisses would have been people looking for Hershey's Hugs, a much less common product that is only mentioned in passing twice in the article as part of lists of other product variants.) - Yes I would be fine with making the singular primary but the links would need to be fixed. Crouch, Swale (talk) 20:59, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
- Oh, one more thing, Crouch, Swale. (And I'm sorry for holding this up!) I don't have a background in computer science, so I defer to those with expertise here, but is Hugs really a programming language? The lead says "Hugs ... is a bytecode interpreter for the functional programming language Haskell [emphasis removed]." So I'm inferring that Hugs isn't a language but is rather a compiler.
- If I'm correct in my understanding, I wonder if "(compiler)" or similar would be a more appropriate disambiguator. It appears to be used for a number of articles in Category:Compilers (though I do see instances of "(programming language)" in Category:Free compilers and interpreters). Graham (talk) 23:01, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
- That might well be better as the infobox describes it as this but I was just going by Gofer (programming language) in Category:Free Haskell implementations. Crouch, Swale (talk) 08:41, 31 August 2022 (UTC)
- I'm neutral, but given the uncertainty it should go to a full WP:RM. -Kj cheetham (talk) 21:54, 31 August 2022 (UTC)

- Support move to Hugs (interpreter). I agree that this is not the primary topic for "hugs". I do have a background in computer science, and can say that Hugs is an interpreter, not a programming language. JIP | Talk 08:23, 1 September 2022 (UTC)

- Support Hugs (interpreter) and redirect to Hug. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:43, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
