Ontology
[edit]Not all academic disciplines are sciences. History and theology for example are academic disciplines but not are not subclasses of science. See my talk page for an example query that produces incorrect entries due to ontology issues. Shyamal (talk) 13:47, 18 April 2017 (UTC)
- academic discipline (Q11862829) - "concentration in one academic field of study or profession". God, transcendent or supernatural forces (theology (Q34178)) are not academic field of study. --Fractaler (talk) 11:58, 19 April 2017 (UTC)
- History is not science? :) I hear this revelation for the first time. --Infovarius (talk) 10:20, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
- The default in Wikidata is pluralism. If there are different points of view Wikidata shows both opinions and you can use statement disputed by (P1310).
- It's also worth noting that Wikidata is international. The German word "Wissenschaft" usually get's used with a wider meaning than the English word "Science". If you take a book like Hegel's Wissenschaft der Logik (Science of Logic) it's not about what's usually meant by the English word Science as it's used in the 21st century. List of academic disciplines by number of statements
[edit]The following query uses these:
- Properties: instance of (P31)
SELECT ?item ?statements ?ids (?statements - ?ids AS ?nst) WHERE { ?item (wdt:P31) wd:Q11862829; wikibase:statements ?statements; wikibase:identifiers ?ids. } ORDER BY DESC (?nst) LIMIT 25
This is a preliminary query to look at useful statements for items instance of academic discipline. PAC2 (talk) 07:33, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
Infobox in Wikipedia in French

[Issue] Weird list of subclasses
[edit]Following the link on the item documentation template above Here) , I find really weird results for subclasses.
For instance dumping (Q467064) is a subclass of academic discipline (Q11862829). This is nonsense for me. PAC2 (talk) 08:39, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
