Discussion
[edit]Teams/athletics program/clubs, etc.
[edit]Quick question @Jura1, MisterSynergy:; for universities in the United States there are often distinct items for a university's entire athletics program, such as Illinois Fighting Illini (Q3071648), and for a specific team within said program, such as Illinois Fighting Illini men's basketball (Q5999485). Which should we be using as a value for this property? Mahir256 (talk) 04:59, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
- Technically both are instances of sports clubs and thus fine (in this case), and I would aim for the more specific one. —MisterSynergy (talk) 05:04, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
- @MisterSynergy: You have been adding the more general athletics item for universities in the United States; would you be able to quickly fix them to point to the more specific team item?
- Mahir256 (talk) 05:08, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
- I will later have a look at that. Until now I only used enwiki infobox information to create claims, but due to edit rate limitations the entire process in this field takes at least a couple of days to finish.
A problem since early Wikidata days is that both at Wikidata and Wikipedia don’t systematically distinguish between clubs and teams. We just have items about what’s covered in Wikipedias, thus sometimes there are team items and sometimes not. —MisterSynergy (talk) 05:17, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

Follows/followed-by as qualifiers?
[edit]Where should we add follows (P155) and followed by (P156)?
For sports season of league or competition (P3450), I think Pasleim's bot moves (or moved) them as qualifier to P3450.
I'd do the same for these items.

- Not sure. Please don’t put them as qualifiers of season of club or team (P5138) claims. Maybe the instance of (P31) value (which I refine right now) fits better as a location of qualifiers, or the time period (P2348) claim. follows (P155) and followed by (P156) indicate a temporal series and they are somehow valid for the entire item, not just one claim. —MisterSynergy (talk) 08:57, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
- Ok, if you'd rather not. Not sure about the use on P31. As you mention, these tend to get changed. This sometimes makes us loose qualifiers or references. Maybe we'd rather keep them directly on the item.
--- Jura 09:04, 14 May 2018 (UTC)- Yes, we should at least wait until the items are organized to a much better extent and maybe re-examine this question again. At this point I’d rather not make a final decision which maybe interferes with something else later. —MisterSynergy (talk) 09:14, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

Output ?
[edit]This developed fairly well (sorry that I write this even though I added some stuff myself). Most items using this have basic statements and the property seems to be present on a reasonable percentage items that could us it.
After adding properties, sometimes, I try to add one or several basic reports (Listeria type). I think it would be worth doing this here too, even if these items are primarily useful for Wikipedia.
Options could be a season overview for a country/sport (similar to this) or a report for specific seasons/sports (similar to this).
