Actually, Xvid is hard to recognize by Plex, as Plex doesn’t support the Xvid codec natively. Generally, the Xvid codec files will be transcoded to H.264 on Plex Media Server automatically. However, there still exist many Plex Xvid playback issues, like "Plex doesn’t transcode Xvid codec correctly", "Plex Xvid video codec may be required" or "Xvid codec not allowing playback".
If you encountered such issues as well, you are on the right page now. The following content shares two fixes to help you solve the Xvid Plex playback issue so that you can play Xvid codec files on Plex smoothly.
The most efficient way to solve the video not playing issue is to change the video format/codec to player/device-supported ones. Xvid is an open-source MPEG-4 video codec that can be encoded in MP4, AVI, MKV, etc. video container formats. So when you fail to play those videos in Xvid codec on Plex, you can definitely convert Xvid codec to H.264 or other Plex-supported codecs in advance to avoid possible issues.
WonderFox HD Video Converter Factory Pro can act as an efficient video converter to help you convert Xvid to Plex-compatible formats and codecs. With its user-friendly interface and intuitive workflow, even beginners can easily start the conversion without hassle. Besides, it can also help you solve other video incompatibility issues like Plex AV1, etc. The batch conversion mode allows you to process multiple files, saving you time and energy. Other excellent features like video editing, compression, downloading, recording, etc. are also worth a try!
DownloadDownload it here now and start conversion as follows!
Step 1. Launch HD Video Converter Factory Pro after the installation and enter its “Converter” module.
Step 2. Click the “+ Add Files” / “Add Video Folder” button to import the unsupported Xvid files. You can also drag the source files and drop them into the workspace.
Step 3. Click the format image on the right side to open the output format library. Under the “Video” tab, choose MP4 or the original format. Then go to the “Parameter settings” window to change the video codec from the “Encoder” drop-down list.
Step 4. Specify an output folder by pressing the inverted triangle button at the bottom of the interface. Finally, tap “Run” to start the conversion.
Alternatively, you can also adjust Plex settings to activate the Xvid codec for Plex. However, this method cannot ensure 100% of success. Anyway, you can give it a shot, as there is no need to download any third-party software.
Step 1: Close Plex server and wait 1 minute for the video viewer to refresh.
Step 2: Restart Plex and wait about 2 minutes for all changes to become active.
Step 3: Analyze one affected, then wait 1 minute before summoning the replay window.
Step 4: Reload the Xvid codec video from your device and try to play it.
Step 5: After 3 minutes, retrieve log files and attach them to the Plex forum.
Above is all I want to share with you about the Xvid not playing in Plex issue. By changing the Xvid video codec to a Plex-supported video codec, you can 100% play unsupported Xvid codec files on Plex successfully. That’s all. Thanks for reading! Have a nice day!
