The Nuuanu Pali State Wayside is a lookout above the Pali Highway tunnels where you’re treated to a panoramic view of Oahu's Windward side with sweeping views of Kaneohe, Kaneohe Bay and Kailua. It’s also well known for strong tradewinds, forming a natural wind tunnel of sorts. It was here in 1795 that Kamehameha The Great conquered the island of Oahu in one of the bloodiest battles in Hawaiian history. Led by Kalanikupule, the defenders of Oahu were driven back up into the valley where they were trapped above the cliff. More than 400 of Kalanikupule's soldiers were driven off the edge of the cliff to their deaths 1,000 feet below.

Park located on the east and north side of Oahu, famous for its view of Mokolii Island (Chinaman's Hat), and known for its swimming, picnicking, barbeques and camping.

Mokoli’i is one of Oahu’s small offshore islands. It is about half a mile from the mainland and is accessible by water (kayak/canoe or swimming) or at low tide by walking. The hike to the top may be challenging as it is steep and rocky (bring appropriate shoes); from the top there are lovely views.

Have a refreshing swim in the pool under these scenic falls in north Oahu. You can get there via an easy 1.5-mile hike through a beautifully landscaped path along the Waimea River. While the park is beautiful year-round, you may encounter a dry waterfall during periods with little rainfall. Tickets are required to enter the Waimea Waterfall and include the rental of a life jacket, which you must wear to take a dip in the pool. Beware of the slippery rocks. If you need a refreshment—and to complete the experience—have a quintessential shave ice on your way back.
