Jayden Murphy, formerly known as Quincy, is one of the best Smash 64 players in Australia, his rise to dominance beginning in 2018 after winning both Australian majors that year. He has lost four console tournaments in the country since then, three at the hands of international players, with his lowest placing being 3rd.

History[edit]

Having picked the game up in 2015 after not having played since 2011, Jayden first made waves in the broader Australian scene in March 2016 after joining the country's netplay Skype group. With no active players in his city, Jayden had to rely almost purely on Project64k, Training Mode and online play to improve and played on a wired Xbox 360 controller. He cites wario's performance at GENESIS 3 as inspiration for picking up Pikachu, but plays a variety of characters, and is similarly inspired by the likes of Jouske, Isai, Kurabba and DSC. His dedication to his craft was exemplified by his willingness to play during class while he was in high school. In preparation for his first console tournament (Battle Arena Melbourne 9), Jayden trained heavily with Zoso and El Hefe through online play, two South Australian players who helped pioneer a "never say die" attitude. It was at this tournament he faced Kmart, Dino, and SuPeRbOoMfAn in the winner's side of draw, losing to Boom and then losing to Pete in Loser's Final, cementing his spot as one of the promising up-and-comers, alongside Dino who beat Pete in the winner's side of the same tournament and is currently ranked second in Australia.

Jayden's introduction to fierce competition came a year and two months after having first joined the Skype group, at the renowned Battle Arena Melbourne 9, with most of the Australian scene being in attendance, alongside SuPeRbOoMfAn. After losing Simbarumba II singles, Jayden won 150 consecutive games as Pikachu against Sweetchilli's Falcon in an hour for a challenge. Though Indefa and Jayden have been good sparring partners since Jayden joined the netplay scene, it wasn't until Indefa switched mains from Jigglypuff to Kirby that Jayden really elevated his game as Pikachu against the character.

While he already had solid experience, especially after beating Kirbymon twice at Simbarumba, though it wasn't until Jayden travelled to Super Smash Con 2022 where he proved his worth, notching one of his best wins at the tournament, twice, over Killer (once in D1 and again in bracket). The bracket win was particularly impressive, especially considering he was down zero games to two and made the three-game-comeback to advance to the next round. It was there he lost to Wizzrobe 3-0 after narrowly losing game 2. This made Jayden among the few Australian players to compete internationally, as he placed 17th in singles with wins over Czar, lord narwhal, Loto and Killer. Teaming with lord narwhal in doubles, the two finished 7th with wins over Darkhorse & Josh Brody and Take & Prince, and managed to take a game off eventual champions Isai & tacos in pools. A year later he would return to Super Smash Con 2023 and make Division 1 pools in singles while not advancing, having to face the toughest of opponents such as KeroKeroppi (4th place) and Isai (winner). In doubles, he would team with Shears and place 13th with losses to teams such as Queso & heny935, Paco & Shihman, tacos & Alvin, and eventual runners-up Take & kysk.
