Serafina is making the trip to Boone with us this weekend. Excited to complete the series. #vacationreads
Plane cabin lights dimmed at just the right time while reading this. 😭😭😭
I can't stop thinking about the peak-end rule mentioned in this book (e.g., we judge experiences like reading a book based on the most intense/peak experience and the ending, and not based on the overall experience of the book). So many books have become "picks" ?for me despite being mostly a slog by delivering with a WOW ending or an insane plot twist. Movies are the same. Do you find this with your reading? Not sure this was the best vacation read, but my "remembering self" is thankful for making the educational journey. Time to regress to the mean with easier reading and a brewski.
All work and no reading makes me a dull boy. Stacking books for next week's vacation to get out of my reading rut. 🤘📚
This was my first Mary Roach book, and it certainly won't be my last. She digs in with the lens of a skeptic looking for proof of the afterlife, and delivers with a humorous, objective and insightful journey searching for answers. Rating: 4 ghosts 👻👻👻👻
Fist bumps to David McCullough for this thrilling account of how we first took flight. Orville and Wilbur succeeded where bigger budgets and more resources failed by studying birds, leveraging their skills as mechanics and through countless hours of research and good ol' fashioned trial and error. A trip to the Smithsonian to see the Flyer firsthand is now on my bucket list! Inspiring.
Inspiring read about using exponential tech + crowdsourcing to solve the world's problems. A solid "think big" book. #holidayreads
It's the time of year to get Trans-Siberian. (And I hope their book brings a new level of rock + lasers to revive my guitar game.)
The Circle is now going live. 😫
Love to read inspiring books leading up to the new year. If any Littens have other inspiring book recs (fiction or non-fiction), I am all ears!
"It's amazing when you come to think of it how the human spirit seems to blossom in the shadow of the abattoir." #allhallowsread #dayofthedead #tbr
While @Nats424 does yoga, I find my own zen. 📚+ 🍻 = 🤘
For fans of The X-Files, this is all the fuel you'll need to believe the truth is out there. The last page is 😳.
Book haul, Thursday edition. First step to recovery is admitting you have a book problem, right? #TBR #mobooksmoproblems #notreally
"Oh God, the terrible tyranny of the majority. We all have our harps to play. And it's up to you to know with which ear you'll listen." #augustphotochallenge #minimalisticcovers
Bucket list ✅: captaining a 737. It was a simulated perfect landing!
Fascinated by the characters in this debut short story collection. Alvar's voice is powerful and provides a window to Filipino culture. Can't wait for her first novel. #recommendsday #wcw
Saturday book haul: Coates, Cline, Hammer and McCullough. I feel so in the know when I walk into a bookstore thanks to all of your great recs on Litsy! 😀🤘📚#needmoreshelves
Today vegetables...tomorrow the world! #recommendsday #rabbitwithfangs
Now hiring: general manager of a minor-league baseball team in Sonoma. No experience required. Excited to see what two sports writers (and baseball stats nerds) with no restrictions (2 outfielders - why not??) achieved running a real team. Fantasy baseball come to life!
That moment when your current read is being neglected and all the books on your TBR are taunting you
What the junk?! Why have I not read this sooner?! Four word review for this one: fun to the max!
Fun times at BEA and Bookcon with @Litsy and @outofprint in the Windy City seeing old friends and making new ones (including meeting many of the Litsy community in person!). Time to relax and read Lumberjanes. 📚
Leaping from my TBR thanks to a generous gift. Bring on The Book Thief!
Neil deGrasse Tyson live❗🤘️He is my hero. Brings science to life in such a fun way through his shows, talks and books.
This feels straight out of The Circle. http://bloom.bg/1Miq2dq
Happiness equation revised: want nothing + do anything + carry around a Litsy spoiler wallet (thanks to @todd ❗️). This book opened my eyes to easy things I can do to be happy every day.
Heller dishing some serious wisdom to Vonnegut. (Oh, to be a fly on the wall for their whole conversation. Now, that would be happiness.)
I loved comics as a kid. Seeing graphic novels on Litsy has motivated me to pair Transformers (thanks, @Chris_Ryall) with a comic-fueled adventure in Kavalier and Clay for my next reads.
A timely read.
Three interwoven tales of dealing with loss and faith: a quest, ghost story and journey with a chimpanzee named Odo, who like Richard Parker in Life of Pi, steals the show. First two stories are okay, but the third is special. The ending still stirs.
Austin literary tour: Harry Ransom Center (Joyce, Shakespeare first editions and David Foster Wallace manuscripts), O. Henry museum (with a book haul of one of his originally unpublished works) and Book People because you can never have enough books.
For anyone who hasn't read David Mitchell (e.g., me), this tale about a soul-sucking haunted house spanning generations is a great way to get hooked. For those who have, there are familiar characters ... and more to come for them after Slade House.🤘
Pessl is a writing powerhouse. LOVED this book, a clever construct for a coming of age meets murder mystery packaged in a syllabus of classic book chapters and a "final exam" that makes you want to turn back to page one to fill in the details.?
Treasures from two recent visits to Park Road Books in CLT. I have a book problem.
