This is an older one, but I really liked the way the author blended a past/present Romeo and Juliet storyline, along with some mystery and action.

A book letter a day game!!
The book went back and forth from the 1300's to present day using the story of Romeo and Juliet as the main plot and as the main characters unraveled family and life-long mysteries…https://tinyurl.com/2wsbj2r9

So hard to put down. I stayed up until 4:30 in the morning trying to finish it. 5 of 5 stars.
This book is outstanding...the storyline, the descriptions, the characters, and Italy.
I can‘t see how it wouldn't be liked...it is a book you won't want to miss.
It has something for everyone...history, romance, mystery, betrayal, life in the 1300's in Italy, ancestors, middle-age family feuds, suspense, and a great author.
Ms. Fortier did a superb job with her novel.

Here‘s the question of the ages: read or clean? What if you really, really, really need to clean, but the stack of library books are calling your name?
What time ratio do you give to each?
Curious minds want to know...
I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join the fun if you want.

#30JuneBooks - J: I haven‘t read this book. It was the promise of the hunt for clues to a secret, the comparison to Philippa Gregory and topping it off, the blurb, “reads like a Da Vinci Code for the smart modern woman” that pulled me in.
This is one of my favorite books, I reread it often. I decided to listen to it this time, I wasn‘t disappointed.
#jubilantjuly Day 8: Family. After her sister gets the estate, a woman is left a key in her mothers will that leads her to Siena. #juliet
Reading tonight on the deck- this book is so beautiful- beautiful words, beautiful setting (makes me want to pack my bags and hop on a plane to Italy), beautiful story.... captivating and very much a can't put down type of read.
If the origins of the Romeo and Juliet story in the 1300s in Siena, Italy, interest you, this is a great read. Through centuries of oral tradition, many versions of the tale exist. These are skillfully intertwined with present day descendants of Romeo, Juliet, and the Friars-clever.
Light reading on the beach. Entertaining level: ??? "...a thrilling treasure hunt through present-day Italy that makes the classic tragedy itself spellbinding all over again."

One of my all time favorite books. I've been in a slump lately, so I decided to re read Fortier's beautiful debut. As a fan of the Bard's story of the epic star crossed lovers, I found Ms. Fortier's modern take a delight! The back and forth between Romeo and Guilietta to our present day Juliet is wonderful! Still feeling a little out of sorts though, so maybe I should re read another favorite? Maybe Jennifer Crusie's Bet Me📚.
I tried really hard with this one, but I can't get past Julie/Giulietta's annoyingly dense personality. Made it to 150 pages, and just don't care.
It's my first day of work!! And while I was stocking I found books titled with both of my girls' names. 📚😍

Words can't express how much I loved this book. I purchased it on a complete whim from a used book store and fell in love. It gives the traditional story a complete twist. I highly recommend, and honestly would have used it in my Litsy goes postal group if I would have thought of it:/
My last book of 2016! Juliet is the story of a modern day woman discovering that her family line extends back to the origin story of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. This book is jammed with plot strands and genres - murder mystery, historical fiction, even a potential evil twin! Sometimes the seams show but a fast pace and superior historical research deliver. A great read for anyone visiting Siena! #siena #shakespeare #italy #historicalfiction
My pick for this week's #FunFridayPhoto is Juliet by Anne Fortier. I read it back way back in 2010 so I'll have to rely on the review I wrote at the time: "A whirlwind treasure hunt, a timeless romance, historical fiction, and a murder mystery all rolled into one great read." ??????
I love stories that try to re-create or explain the classics. This book was so fun, chasing the "original" Romeo and Juliet through Siena in the 1340s paired with modern day "star-crossed lovers". I could totally relate to the main character, her naiveté and desire to be a part of a larger story were absolutely delightful.
Loving the cool weather and trip through one of my favorite Shakespeare plays through the eyes of another author. I ❤️ books about other books!
"There is lust, you know, and then there is love...To indulge in one requires little but honeyed speech and a change of clothes; to obtain the other, by contrast, a man must give up his rib. In return, his woman will undo the sin of Eve, and bring him back into Paradise."
Somewhat suspenseful and romantic. An interesting idea and plot! Love the play on Romeo and Juliet and the twins!
