I haven‘t read a Stephen King for a very long time. This is a novella and is just perfect a read for me and my memory. 😊. He tells a great story. Such an imagination.

There is a surreal weight loss phenomena occurring with main character Scott, but this is really a story about accepting differences and caring for the people around you. Surprising and heartwarming — but if you‘re looking for scary, this isn‘t it. Maybe when King wrote this he thought the real world was scary enough?
Delightful and bizarre, Elevation is an extremely quick read about a man who can't seem to stop losing weight - but not in the sense that fans of King's back catalog might think. Coupled with a hopeful story of overcoming hateful exclusion in a small town, Elevation is a light, airy read that left me smiling. 4/5
Mixed feelings with this short story? Novella? This is about Scott who is losing weight without “getting thinner”. Then there are some situations with people in the community where you see prejudices, discrimination. At some point, I was lost because Mr. King is talking about other irrelevant things, at least for me. But again, the story takes another emphasis, Scott condition, the race and that end...beautiful and sad😔⬇️

🧨 Yesterday I finished reading Elevation. This little book was very quirky - made me think of this author called Richard Bachman. If Thinner and The Long Walk had a sweet baby this might be it.
No horror. No N words. A lesbian couple. I recommend it for the feel good vibes.

Thank you for hosting this #LosersClub buddy read @BarkingMadRead !
This is a weird little book about a man losing weight in Castle Rock. Scott makes new friends and brings the town together before leaving in a grand exit 🎆
#LosersClub @BarkingMadRead
One of those King books that‘s more about the character study than anything else.
It had some heart, but what & why else… I can‘t say.

Finished my 1st book for 2024, a reread for #losersclub I love the beginning of the year, because your book fulfills prompts for pretty much every challenge you‘re doing 🤣 I huge this one 🌟🌟🌟🌟because while it‘s a good book, SK is crazy on the politics in this one, which I‘m not a fan of 🤷🏻♀️ USA challenge: Maine 📚 A to Z: E 📚 book bingo: one word title 📚 Pop: set in the snow 📚 52 books: no people on cover #52bookclub2024 ⬇️

Listened to this short one while cleaning the windows. Usual Stephen King weirdness 😅

I‘m not quite sure what to make of this 146 page story. It kind of reminds me of one of his much older stories, Thinner—but going in a different direction. I liked the last paragraphs, describing as he rises into the night sky like a Chinese moon lantern becoming nothing and everything all at once, leaving a trail of golden, lit dust. That‘s all I can really say.
Just another thrift store book haul for my overflowing TBR shelf. Atleast I‘m ready for January 2024 #losersclub 😂
During our summer holiday five years ago I reread and enjoyed King‘s IT. So much so that I have dedicated each summer since to one of his many novels. This year I opted for a shorter one (because I‘m planning to finally tackle McCarthy‘s Suttree).
Elevation is low-dose King magic, but it‘s over way too soon. In fact, it feels like a subplot of a high-concept novel in which EVERYONE‘s bodies start acting up, losing weight and floating etc. etc.
I was in the mood for some horror. To my surprise this was not. More of unexplained phenomena. That being said I enjoyed the book. It was a quick read and ultimately uplifting. Definitely different than Kings normal style, but a well written read none the less.
elevation was a interesting book were the main character is constently getting lighter and lighter and nothing effected his weight. the man can wear a huge trench coat full of coins and his weight won't change. the story ends with him floating into space (i think)
An intriguing portrait of one man‘s personal response to impending death. He is such a versatile author.

Stephen King has always been, and always will be, my absolute favorite author. His writing style has always been so easy flowing and easy for me to relax into. It‘s almost a comfort thing for me at this point. The same can be said for this book, and my only complaint is that I think the story was kind of weak for the theme or message it seemed he was trying to get across. Not a typical King novel, but his signature writing style is there. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Somehow, even though we are only two days away from the new year, I think I can still squeeze one more book in before 2023 officially begins! I love Stephen King and this book is a mere 146 pages, so I figured it would be the perfect candidate! 😆
Here is my fluffy friend Salem. He enjoys the smell of books and when I read to him at loud. Elevation was a really fun short little story. #catsoflitsy
Got a few new books to listen to during late night breastfeeding sessions… any other suggestions are welcome!! “Elevation” is my first pick!
Okay, I admit that I was falling a little behind on my reading challenge for the year so I googled “great short books” and this was one of the results. I really enjoyed it! I read it in a day, one of those stories that just makes me bow to whatever magic goes straight from Mr. King‘s brain to the page. ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Whelp! Here are my 2nd quarter reads for #pop22. I‘m 16/40 books in at the halfway mark 🧐

This is a solid 3 stars for me. I really liked it and it was very beautiful. But it just left me wanting more, and there was no conclusion at the end to why this was happening. I wish it would have gone more into depth.
This is a strange, sad, sweet fable about facing the inevitable. The allegory: a small-town man begins mysteriously losing weight, but not mass. There is no reason, no answers, no solution as gravity loses its hold. How he goes about the final months of his earthly existence is a lovely sketch of compassion and dignity. This mysterious, graceful work felt intimate, maybe more personal than we know. More like this, Steve-o…for as long as you can.
You never know what you‘re going to get with King. This short story has a melancholy feel, an abstract illness, and a lesson about opening up and getting to know your neighbors. It‘s a decent, quick Pride Month read if you‘re looking for one.
#pop22~ a different book by an author you read in 2021

ELEVATION by Stephen King
Scott keeps dropping in weight without any noticeable change to his appearance—and he doesn‘t know what will happen when the scale reaches zero. Will his feet even remain on the ground?
Yet life goes on. Scott has friends to make before the end. Maybe he can even help right a few wrongs.
What pleasantly surprised me about this engaging little novel was just how uplifting it was. It‘s a quick, touching read.
This one is about a man who drastically loses weight continuously, all the while appearing physically unchanged.
There's obviously more to it than that but I never really cared for this one at all.
It felt rushed to me with no real explanation at the end.
Probably would have been better included in a short story collection.
⭐⭐☆☆☆
This was heartwarming King and I really enjoyed it! It‘s about people being people, and the ways in which we can support one another. Beautiful, really.
With King it‘s never about the plot for me. He has a way of creating characters, even in a novella like this, that make you feel invested in their lives. There‘s nothing scary in this book, just a story about neighbors finding common ground and realizing life is too short for petty disputes.

🖤👏🏻👏🏻
I will say this surprised me as a King novel, since he is typically known for his spook!👻
This was such a tragically beautiful & heartwarming story🖤🎇
Scott starts to lose weight but not size… and no matter how heavy his clothes are, he weighs the same.🤔
⭐⭐⭐⭐
I can't think of anything I've read by King that I didn't like. These two stories (Elevation, and Laurie) were very reminiscent to me of the kind of classic short stories I studied in university. Even though the title is Elevation, it was actually Laurie that I enjoyed the most. It was also nice to listen to King read his stories.
This was such a heart touching book. Was not expecting this type of book, but was pleasantly surprised. It really is a beautiful story.
I really enjoyed this short read. It drew me in with a mystery and led me on with a story of a man and his relationship with others, and how those relationships can change their lives.
"Gravity is the anchor that pulls us down into our graves."
"Perhaps in their time if dying, everyone rises."
I give this read ⭐⭐⭐
Such a sweet, touching story. Scott, recently divorced, 42, begins losing weight without any changes to his appearance. He consults with a casual friend who is a retired doctor. Despite any scientific explanations for the weight loss, Scott is feeling great and decides to embrace the changes. King offers so many life lessons in this wonderful story; acceptance of change, open mindedness towards others, and the strength of good friends. #MountTBR
Stephen King is widely recognized as the master of horror (and rightly so), but he is equally adept at another emotion in narrative, yet rarely acknowledged for it: heart.
This is a simple tale of an average man mysteriously losing weight day by day, but maintaining a normal outward appearance. As he deals with his bizarre situation he makes new friends, opens his heart to the beauty of life, and feels rewarded for it. Very emotionally rewarding!
Scott loosingweight is the plot of the story and I wish it would have went more in-depth.Scott while loosing this weight yet he looks the same, is having trouble with his neighbors dogs pooping on his lawn. His lesbian neighbors I might add who are having trouble with the restaurant because the town is apparently too goodey to go eat at there restaurant.Scott makes it his mission to help his neighbors and fix his relationship with him before 0 day.
SUPER excited for my haul from Strand Book Store New York, NY. Strand is a dream! ✨ I was mesmerized. 📚💜💕💜💕💜💕
A science fiction novel that feels mostly like magical realism, but does have some thriller/horror elements. The writing was good & comfortable & the movement through the plot flowed. The characters were great & everything felt like a dreamscape. There were moments where I felt emotionally connected to the character in a way that was amazingly deep for such a short book. Hats off to Mr. King for his marvelous abilities. The man knows his craft.
I wish an editor loved Stephen King enough to say no to him regarding how he describes women. The story Elevated is so beautiful & magical in parts. But always with the weirdo sexual descriptions of females - it strikes a wrong note. And not needed. His writing is so clean and descriptive otherwise. Even simple scenes can be transportive.
Had a bit of chores that needed to be done, so I popped on this Audio Book.
Quite enjoyable. At first I thought it sounded like Thinner but it quickly became clear that it was nothing like that curs of weight loss. This was a different kind of thing all together.
What amaze me most is that after all this time King still comes up with new and fascinating ideas that totally blows my mind.
