How to Walk Away
How to Walk Away | Katherine Center
From the author of Happiness for Beginners comes an unforgettable love story about finding joy even in the darkest of circumstances. Margaret Jacobsen has a bright future ahead of her: a fianc she adores, her dream job, and the promise of a picture-perfect life just around the corner. Then, suddenly, on what should have been one of the happiest days of her life, everything she worked for is taken away in one tumultuous moment . In the hospital and forced to face the possibility that nothing will ever be the same again, Margaret must figure out how to move forward on her own terms while facing long-held family secrets, devastating heartbreak, and the idea that love might find her in the last place she would ever expect. How to Walk Away is Katherine Center at her very best: an utterly charming, hopeful, and romantic novel that will capture readers hearts with every page. Praise for How to Walk Away: "A heartbreak of a novel that celebrates resilience and strength." Jill Santopolo, bestselling author of The Light We Lost "If you just read one book this year, read How to Walk Away." Nina George, New York Times bestselling author of The Little Paris Bookshop "Warm, witty, and wonderfully observed." Emily Giffin, New York Times bestselling author of First Comes Love "Sympathetic and refreshing!" Elinor Lipman, bestselling author of The Family Man "I can't think of a blurb good enough for this novel...poignant, funny, heartbreaking." Jenny Lawson, bestselling author of Furiously Happy

I liked this, Katherine Centers books are a nice palate cleanser for me between other things. There were some extremely annoying characters here - the fiancé and the parents particularly - and the plot is a little bleak (woman is in airplane accident the day she is proposed to, fiancé is flying the plane, she is paralysed as a result). Seeing the personal journey of the main character helped offset the annoying sidekicks. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Katherine Center does it again with this raw and emotional story about picking up the pieces in the aftermath of unspeakable tragedy. I found myself trying to put myself in the MC shoes, and quite literally couldn‘t imagine it. Loved the ending! 5/5

Great narration, it really brought this story to life. Margaret has just been proposed to in a plane that her fiancé Chip is flying when something goes terribly wrong and they crash. Margaret finds herself questioning if Chip is the right person for her as he is nowhere to be found when she needs him most. This story shows how strength comes from within and sometimes change can be the thing you never knew you needed.

Soooooo…. Has this ever happened to you? I had heard good things about this book, liked something else by the author, and went ahead and bought it for myself for my birthday.

I went to start it tonight and I‘m already finished. How? BECAUSE I REALIZED I ALREADY READ IT. I must have “heard good things about it” from myself when I read it 2 years ago for a #lmpbc group! Wow. That‘s embarrassing. 😳

LiteraryinPA @shellleigh33 @BennettBookworm Guess that one really left an impression, huh? 😋 But I liked it so much and now I remember all about it! 2y

My goodness, what a riveting book. It stopped me in my tracks, made me need to keep reading to find out what would happen in the aftermath of a tragic accident and the characters coming to terms with their new reality. This book follows a young girl after a devastating plane crash, her recovery, her relationships, and her progress in her own understanding of herself. I really enjoyed this book (although there were some unrealistic plot turns) and didn‘t want to stop reading. Overall good read with likable characters and engaging plot line.

It's been a long time since I started a book and within a few pages was hooked. The first half was a 5 star can't-put-it-down gotta-see-what-happens type of experience. Something happened for me about halfway through, and it wasn't quite as good for some reason. So in the end, I gave it 4 stars.
A really good inspiring story with some great characters. (Kitty is a favorite!)

I didn‘t know what this book was about, and found it had the right balance of levity amidst deeply difficult circumstances. I won‘t say tragedy because that seems to shortchange the book‘s main point and cheapen the struggles of the characters. It was an unexpectedly uplifting book with a message of hope and finding joy in acts for others.

I liked this contemporary romance as much as her book Things You Save in a Fire. She does work place romances well. There was a mood shift after the cabin scene that made it a bit more depressing. There is a happy ending though like in all romances.

shellleigh33 What color are you gonna use @sharread 4y
sharread Blue if someone's else is using it I could go purple 😁 4y
See All 11 Comments
shellleigh33 Blue sounds good @sharread I haven‘t heard anyone comment a color yet. I just want to make sure we just don‘t all pick the same colors. It is easier to keep up with everyone‘s comments when we use a different color 4y
BennettBookworm Totes! What I‘ve done in the past is just choose a color that nobody wrote in yet for that given book, but might be different color for another book. So I can be any color! 4y
shellleigh33 That‘s a cool idea @BennettBookworm. Do you stay with the same color throughout the book and write final thoughts in it? 4y
BennettBookworm Yes definitely staying with the same color the whole book. I also like to write a little “hello” intro in the cover or first logical blank page, and then at the end final thoughts like you said ☺️ 4y
LiteraryinPA I agree with everything @BennettBookworm said actually. I have a bunch of different colored pens so I can be whatever. If people want to pick ahead of time that‘s fine with me, or I‘ll pick an unused one when I get each book. Also, not sure you guys know this but she and I are actually sisters! We like to be in the same book groups when possible even though we live in different states. 😋 @shellleigh33 @sharread 4y
shellleigh33 I did not know that @LiteraryinLititz and @BennettBookworm. That is so cool, I ❤️ it!!! I wish my sister was a reader. My mom is but we don‘t have the same taste and I haven‘t convinced her to join Litsy yet 😭😭 4y
BennettBookworm @shellleigh33 maybe some day!!! 4y

I absolutely loved this book!!! The first KC book I read was "Things you save in a Fire" and I wasn't a fan of it, but this book was fantastic! I loved the conflict between Maggie. her sister and their mother. KC really knows how to mix and balance a lighthearted romance with difficult personal struggles and heated family drama. I would highly recommend this one for anyone who is looking for a romance with depth.

I enjoyed it. I didn‘t enjoy the narrators terrible Scottish accent but I got used to it. There were a lot of layers to the book which I enjoyed. I like this author but it‘s almost surprising for me because she‘s subtle and I‘m not subtle haha. It was a good listen.

I listened to this on Audible. Once I got past the horrible attempt at the Scottish accent, I enjoyed the story. I couldn‘t really relate to it since I‘ve never been in nor survived a plane crash, but there was a story of hope that was lost and then regained through love. I felt the epilogue was rushed and could‘ve made for a decent sequel. Book 8 of 2020

JoyNorstrom Oh gosh, that accent 😳😳😳. 100% agree. Audio would have been vastly improved if the reader hadn‘t attempted the accent. 4y

I don't know how I would feel or react if the life I thought I had was ripped away by a tragic accident. Margaret had to learn “how to walk away“ in every sense. There were times she was bitter, angry, heartbroken, hurt, depressed, anxious. I felt all those emotions with her.
