Pilot 1940-1945 is the story of an unemployed young man who emerges from an environment of rejection; the result of a marriage that intertwined the emotions of a coquettish mother and a gay stepfather. His dreams, albeit, hopeless, and without qualifications except for a searing desire, he was to become a pilot in the Army Air Corps. The emotional roller coaster resulting from this seemingly impossible mission, along with the hi-jinks and beautiful women he meets, are chronicled in this poignant story of how one man's love of flying overcomes the official final statement from the Army Air Corps, which was "You will never fly again for the Army Air Corps."

I was honored to meet this author. He is 97 and was a navy WWII pilot. He lives in the same independent care home as my dad (also WWII navy). I had dinner with him and my dad and we got to talking about the book Flyboys. He knew it of course but told me he wrote a book too. He went and got me a copy and signed it. He's not a pro author but the stories are great, amazing and inspirational. He and my dad are true heroes!
