Broadband in Rural Kenya and India at $3/month
The barrier to increased Internet adaption for the next several B people is affordability. Two ISPs I'm involved with, Mawingu in Kenya, and AirJaldi in India, are showing that it's possible to offer great broadband to rural consumers at $2-3/month, and to SME's for $10-30/month, and be profitable. Key techniques are keeping it simple, and developing a local workforce. With this, we can deliver the same Internet to the same devices (as mobile broadband would), only over a different network.
Here's a presentation I did at the Wifi Now! event in Tysons, VA. Thanks to Claus Hetting for inviting me.
