🌱Innovative paths to sustainability: the P2Valuechemicals project 🌱 Prof. Dr. Robert Franke presented the exciting P2Valuechemicals project at the Power-to-X Day in Industriepark Höchst. This project, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, is part of the Kopernikus Initiative, one of the largest research efforts for energy system transformation in Germany. Together with partners such as the Jülich Research Center, the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion, Siemens Energy and Evonik Oxeno, we are working on a groundbreaking technology: the electrolysis of carbon dioxide to carbon monoxide. This carbon monoxide serves as a raw material for methoxycarbonylation and could revolutionize our sustainable carbonylation technology. The goal is to make this technology more environmentally friendly by using green electricity and CO2 as raw materials. A big step towards a greener future! 🌍 Harald Haeger Forschungszentrum Jülich #Sustainability #EnergyTransition #Innovation #P2Valuechemicals #KopernikusProjekte #GreenTechnology #siemensenergy #dechema #kopernikus #robertfranke

We are excited to announce the official launch of Calectra - a startup on a mission to electrify heavy industry! Human societies depend on materials like steel, cement, and chemicals. We produce 7 billion tons of just these three materials yearly. Producing these and all other materials and goods requires a lot of energy, especially heat (24,000 TWh). Industrial heat accounts for a quarter of all global energy consumption. However, today, this heat is fossil-based and accounts for 10% of the world’s carbon dioxide emissions. Decarbonizing high-temperature heat at low cost is especially challenging. Calectra provides low-cost, zero-carbon, up to 1600°C process heat for heavy industry. The Calectra heat battery stores low-cost, off-peak, renewable electricity as heat in our patent-pending bricks. The heat can be delivered 24/7 to retrofitted industrial processes with over 90% round trip efficiency. Calectra was founded by Pauliina Meskanen and Nate Weger to decarbonize heavy industry. The co-founders met at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)-backed Cradle to Commerce program. Our technology is based on research by Calectra’s CTO and co-founder, Nate Weger, during his PhD at University of California, Berkeley / Berkeley Lab. Since the Cradle to Commerce program, we have been grateful to receive support from The Engine’s Blueprint, NYSERDA-backed Venture For ClimateTech, University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business Cleantech to Market (C2M), and Aalto University’s Energy Linkage programs. We also won first prize in For ClimateTech’s Global Innovation Challenge “Future of Energy” category and were a top 5 finalist at the Extreme Tech Challenge’s Global Deep Tech Startup Competition. Follow us on LinkedIn and sign up for mailing list on our website for updates! The website is in the comments. Let’s electrify industrial heat! #industrial #decarbonization #processheat #climatetech #launch
