Just the Right Landing - Antora. I’m delighted to share that I’ve joined the amazing team at Antora Energy as VP Business Development, and will be working with them to help decarbonize industrial heat, perhaps the single biggest decarbonization opportunity today. The industrial sector accounts for 30% (!) of global carbon emissions. Antora makes thermal batteries which use cheap off-peak wind and solar energy to generate high-temperature heat stored in carbon blocks, which is then used to replace carbon emitting sources of industrial heat; often this means replacing natural gas, but in some places we’ll be replacing even higher carbon content fuels like oil or coal. This was an amazing search process for me, and I met many wonderful companies and leadership teams that I would have been honored to work with. I wanted to find a high impact clean tech business that was ready to scale to $Bs of deployments now, with a world class team of humans, and investors that could help leverage early successes rapidly. Antora really nailed all of these. Remarkably, Antora is now ramping up manufacturing of their 225 kW thermal batteries right in San Jose, CA, with $Bs of decarbonization projects already in the pipeline. So, if you need to decarbonize your industrial thermal load, drop us a line; and, if you need to help other people do that, we’re hiring and partnering… Thanks David Bierman, Andrew Ponec, Justin Briggs, Jordan Leventhal, from Antora for making this happen. And thanks to all the amazing people who were part of this heart-warming journey, with special call outs to Tim Woodward, Anup Jacob, Nathaniel Anschuetz, David Finke, Jennifer Rockwood, Kate Brandt, Alexa Arena, Astro Teller, Bob Bauer, Ramya Swaminathan, Sila Kiliccote, Dave Konye, Alsey Davidson, Maxwell Dworkin, Philipp Schmaelzle, Shayle Kann, Lindsay Luger, Bill Hooper, Greg Vilkin, Marcum D. "Eli" Khouri, Heriberto Diarte.
We are excited to share that Ty Jagerson has joined Antora as our VP of Business Development. Ty is a dynamic leader with more than 25 years of experience launching and growing energy businesses at companies including Google, General Motors, and Xerox PARC. Ty has overseen the installation of hundreds of clean energy projects, and has raised over $300M of corporate, government, and venture financing. After a decade in the solar and storage industries, Ty joined Google’s X, the moonshot factory to develop Tapestry, a system that allows utilities to better manage and model the electric utility grid and accelerate the deployment of renewables. Following Tapestry, Ty led project development for Malta, a Google spin-out developing long-duration grid storage. Most recently, Ty launched the General Motors V2X business unit as a founding executive at GM Energy, where he ran commercial hardware sales, V2X software, and fleet electrification services. Ty holds an MBA from Wharton and has worked professionally in over 25 countries. 3wThanks everyone for the amazing comments. It is pretty amazing to see kind words from so many folks, from so many corners of the LinkedIn-o sphere. It’s like throwing myself a surprise party. Hi everyone, stay in touch, and let’s all keep our feet to the fire and do what each of us can to move the big dial on climate change. It is a hidden curse that we do not see every day, but through our actions and inactions we are pulling that boulder inexorably into ourselves, and on to our descendants.
